just recently, i have noticed that my macbook pro started making faint popping and crackling noises - kind of like the hard drive spinning and slowing down a lot (i think the sound is from the hard drive spinning down). i've never heard it before, but maybe i'm just paranoid.

has anyone else ever heard that coming from their mbp?

Since I've upgraded to Leopard I've heard a lot of pops from the speakers usually when the volume is muted. It seems to happen when there is supposed to be a sound from one program or another. It may happen randomly as well but I haven't tracked it too carefully. I have no idea why this happens. Hopefully it's just an OS issue that will be resolved.

this definitely isn't the speakers. you can put your ear to it and hear that it's probably the hard drive (possibly one of the fans, but i doubt it).

i did wonder if leopard might be a culprit though.
