Very interesting, I was just about to buy a MBA superdrive. Does anyone know if the current MBA has enough horsepower to even play a Blu-ray movie? Is there software to play Blu-Ray's in Leopard?

There is NO software for Blu-Ray in or available for OSX.

Well there is Toast. Thats only for writing data to Blu-Ray. You can also use boot camp to boot into windows to play Blu-Rays. But I'm starting to think that the original MBA's integrated video card won't have enough power?

Huh?

Other than the small form factor, am I missing something? Nearly $300 for a Blu-ray READER?

The local Fry's has an LG Blu-ray BURNER that also reads HD-DVD discs for $249. Add an external case for $30-50 and you've got a solution that BURNS Blu-ray discs for about the same price.

Yeah it's a larger form factor, but it doesn't seem like nearly $300 is a fair price for this drive.

I'm Sure you can use the Toast Titanium software, to make the drive compatible with OS X, since supposedly 10.5.6 is supposed to allow for Blu-Ray support via the OS for computers with compatible drives.

I would of thought that they might of had pictures of it working with OS X, before trying to release a drive which Apple hasn't supported yet. Has anyone contacted them for more info on this drive compatibility?

I thought computers without a protected path (HDCP)
couldn't play BD in the first place?

I think this is more for connecting the computer to an external display or external device. They want to make sure you don't intercept the signal for copy protection etc.
