iPod Portable "Dock"

I have a 160GB iPod Classic. I've been looking to invest in some sort of portable dock, a self-powered or battery powered speaker that attaches to the 30 pin connector. But so far I've been unable to find anything like what I'm looking for.

Does the thing I'm after even exist?
 
There are tons of these types of devices. I have two of them myself. They're both made by Logitech.

Since the change to lightning, portable speakers have been trending to using Bluetooth. But you'll still be able to find 30-speakers.
 
Any chance for a link or a brand name to help me in my search? Simply telling me they do exist doesn't help me regretfully. :) When I search eBay and Amazon I find nothing but non-portable docking stations that require a power socket to function. :(
 
I did give you a brand. I have two made by Logitech. The newer one is the pure-FI anywhere 2.

It does need to be plugged in to charge, but it has a battery that lasts pretty long. Not sure if t charges the iPod when he speaker isn't plugged in.

What's your exact use case? Do you need it to be a sync dock, or just a set of portable speakers?
 
If you're just looking for portable speakers, check out this iHome speaker. Uses the headphone jack, and can charge with any standard USB port on a computer or wall charger. I've got one, they're really nice and small too. They also make slightly different models with different color shells. :)

Just speakers, as portable as possible (that Pure-FI 2 is way too big). Either powered by the iPod itself or battery powered. I don't need any syncing features, only portable audio.

Something a bit like this I guess. So my iPod could act like a phone does when playing music.

I think you're going to find it difficult to find a 30-pin speaker like that. I've never seen one like that. It would also need to be powered separately, because I doubt the iPod could send enough power through the 30-pin.

Would you be willing to use the mini jack? Your options open up greatly. The iHome speaker above is pretty good and the charge lasts forever. The unit squishes down on itself for more compact storage.

Also, jbl has a decent BT/mini jack speaker that's really nice.

You could get a 30-pin Bluetooth adapter for the iPod and then open up your options even more.
 
Yes they do exist. I also have a Logitech Docking Station. It is fully chargeable and will last about 8-10 hours on a charge. Can also be plugged in and used as well. Not perfect sound quality, but not exactly poor quality either. Comes with remote, case, charging cable and docking station. I paid $100 for it several years ago and it is still working great.

I am sure if you look hard enough, there are still some around NIB possibly on Amazon or Ebay. I have had it for several years and have gotten great use from it.

As lovely as that looks, it is far too big for my needs. I need something that will fit into my pocket. Looks like the iHome is my only realistic option. Thanks for the help everyone. :)
