I've been test-driving a 14" M3 Pro (coming from a 16" M1 Pro) and man I'm struggling. There are some situations where my 16" was just perfect (mostly in giving presentations and with better ergonomics when I'm working in certain locations). Of course, the 14" has massive benefits for other situations, including air travel, which is why I got it.

So I've been trying to see if I can get the best of all worlds by using a portable monitor for those situations where I need the real estate. The Innoview dual view looks nice because it can get tall -- I need more height, not width. However, it's not cheap.

Anyone using any portable monitors that they're happy with and are compatible with a MBP?

I have a few (Cocopar 1080P 17.3" on sale for $260 Amazon and Uperfect Touch-4k x2 15.6" $560 Amazon) that I'm happy with. Both can rotate to portrait and are compatible with the Mac line. I've looked at the 18.5", but from what I've been able to find, they are only in 1080P. Uperfect does have an 18" 2k for $256.49 Amazon right now.

I got the DragonTouch Monitor… 4k model. And the name might suggest it’s touch screen, but it’s not.

I personally like the look of it, has an Apple-like style to it.

I 3D-printed a VESA mount for it to use on my workshop computer as a 2nd display, and I can pop it off that & use it when traveling.
No 3D-printed VESA mount… but I bought this adapter instead (purchased two). So, I can achieve the same results.. pop it off and use it elsewhere.

That only works if the VESA threaded holes are in the display ;)

the portable monitor I linked, has a completely smooth back - it attaches to its "Folio"/kickstand magnetically. My 3D printed mount has magnets in it that the display hooks to, and the VESA holes to attach to the monitor arm in my workshop.

There are two here that I work with.

One is a ViewSonic VA1655, a good inexpensive 15.8" 1080p. It is USB-C powered and can get its video signal either via the USB-C port or via HTML (miniHTML). It has a good crisp display, but it isn't particularily color accurate. Great for my use which is displaying text, web pages and email while my notebook's main display handles the color critical work (Ps, ...). I usually use this with my 16" Windows notebook, either on-the-road as a second display or on my desk along with two other 27" 1080p displays for a 4 monitor array. I've also connected it occasionally to my Mac Studio at work for a 3rd display. Recommended is you want/need a good bargin display.

The second is the extremely nice LG Gram +View 16" display. This is primarily for use with my boss's 16" MBP. It is a 16:10 ratio 2.5k display with excellent color accuracy (99% DCI-P3). Its physical design is very Apple-esque with a brushed aluminum finish that looks great when used for client presentations in combination with the MBP. It is, though 2.5x the price of the ViewSonic and can only be connected via USB-C for both power and video. There is no provision for HTML, DP, DVI, ... . Highly recommended if you want/need a high quality display.
