Hi guys,

For all who have bought Portal 2, can you please post your Mac model + video settings here and the FPS you get?
I saw already many people panic about Portal 2 if it would run on the system or not, so I think it would be nice if we can try to put everything together in one thread so everybody can compare a little.

To see your Mac system specs:
1)Press :apple: icon at the left top corner
2)Hit about this mac
3)Hit more info
4)If you select Hardware you get a part of the info and Graphics/Displays shows the rest

To see the FPS in portal:
1) Enable the Developer console in the options of Portal
2) Press ~ ingame
3) Type net_graph 1 and press enter
4) Press escape until you are back in game and you will see the FPS

Portal 2 setup--------
I've been having problems, so I set everything to minimum.

Results ---------
On start up the FPS is around 120, up to over 200 and remaining there in some simple rooms. Play for a few minutes, then FPS drops to 60, then 20, then jumps between 10 and 15. Which is essentially unplayable. At that point I just quit.

I've submitted a problem ticket to Steam, we'll see what happens. Based on past experiences with them, I'm not too optimistic.

BlackZ, unless AA is important to you, you can always just turn that down and you'll most likely hit 60's with vsync
----
Model: Macbook Pro Early 2011
CPU: Intel Core i7 2.3 GHz
RAM: 8GB
GPU: AMD 6750 1GB Ram
RESOLUTION:1680 * 1050

My current settings in Portal 2 are:

Anti-Aliasing: OFF
Filtering: 16x
V-Sync: triple buffered
Multi-core: enabled
Shaders: very high
Effects: high
Model detail: high
Resolution: 1680 * 1050

FPS result: 60FPS, dips to 30 at times but almost always climbs back up to 60.

Result: Super happy with results. 120+ FPS without vsync and no AA. Screen tearing though. More happy with 60FPS steady than screen tearing. Don't care a lick about AA, barely notice it esp at native, high res.

Model: Macbook Pro 15" (mid-2009)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: 512MB Geforce 9600M GT
RESOLUTION: 1440x900

My current settings in Portal 2 are:

Anti-Aliasing: OFF
Filtering: Bilinear
V-Sync: Off
Multi-core: Yes
Shaders: Low
Effects: Medium
Model detail: High
resolution: 1440 x 900 (Native)

FPS result: 40-60+ fps, very smooth and very playable (and enjoyable :) ). Beat the single player on my gaming desktop, wasn't expecting great results on the Mac due to previous gaming experiences (*cough* TF2, SC2). Fired it up tonight and was pleasantly surprised with the results. Graphic wise looks pretty good as well - not as good as my desktop, but definitely decent.

Model: iMac 21.5 Inch
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4670
RESOLUTION: 1920x1080

My current settings in Portal 2 are:
Anti-Aliasing: 2x
Filtering: 2x
V-Sync: Double
Multi-core: Yes
Shaders: Low
Effects: Low
Model detail: Medium
resolution: 1280 x 720
FPS result: Pretty good.

I can run the game in 1920x1080. But everytime I look into a portal or at a medium to large sized room, you can just see the FPS drop... Since I dont know how to enable a fps viewer, I'll have to guess...
But in 1080p i think it will average around 40fps and then when i see big things or look trough my portal it will drop to 15 or so...

So I am now playing it in 1280 x 720 in a window...
I dont have too much problems with playing in a window since it allows me to keep my messenger on, but the performance is baaaad...

Think I'm gonna install it trough bootcamp as well ;)

Amdixer: he put the command up at the top. To wit: net_graph 1

As for me…

Model: Hackintosh
CPU: Intel Core i7-930 2.83GHz
RAM: 6GB
GPU: AMD HD 4890
RESOLUTION: 1680x1050

My current settings in Portal 2 are:
  • Anti-Aliasing: off
  • Filtering: Anisotropic 16x
  • V-Sync: Triple Buffered
  • Multi-core: enabled
  • Shaders: very high
  • Effects: high
  • Model detail: high
  • resolution: 1680 x 1050

FPS result: 60 FPS generally, almost always above 55

Result: I'm extremely pleased with performance, the game runs perfectly.
