So now what am I supposed to do with my spare giftable copy of Portal? Toss it into a fire?

No, you toss companion cube into a fire, duh.

What's so good about Portal 2? Don't get me wrong I downloaded Portal last night, first time playing it and beat it within...I wanna say shy of 2 hours.

The story line was fantastic, but why is Portal 2 so expensive? What makes it worth that $$, as in I don't want to pay for a 2 hour game :p

wait a few years... Portal 1 that you just played used to cost that much too.

I haven't beaten Portal 2 yet, but I've put 7 hours into the single player campaign. They put a lot more work into the story and the dialogue is even wittier. Also, there is a co-op mode that is a stand alone campaign. A good buy, in my opinion.

Portal 2 is much longer than 2 hours and its an actual stand alone game. The first portal was an add on in Half life 2's Orange Box.

It took me 8 hours to beat Portal 2. I thought that was pretty fast, but I do like the puzzles, so unless you didn't like the puzzles and have no interest in doing co-op (which I have not done) then Portal 2 may not be for you.

I beat Portal 1 in a couple of hours, maybe 3.
I beat Portal 2 (single+co-op) in 14 hours. Co-op was great fun. Probably the most fun I've had in a 2 player game for a very long time.

The ending song wasn't as good in Portal 2 and overall the game feels like a big budget sequel as you'd expect. Doesn't have the same level of charm though. If Portal 1 was a love song, Portal 2 is a power ballad.

Anyone else having a hard time signing up for Steam? It just says "Your account creation request failed, please try again later." It said that last night and today.

Well always wanted to try it and now it's free! Downloaded yesterday, played for 2 hours, and just finished it another hour later. 3 hours total. Feel quite good, never usually finish games and it was quite fun! Liked it. Might make me buy Portal 2!

Lol I was so confused for a minute thinking (but I got it free....) then I realized they had bumped the price back up. Ah, was it ever nice to get it right when steam came out lol.

Also, free or not (aka, not) Portal 2 is easily worth the money, just saying.

Ok - so now how do I get my Xbox 360 controller to work with Portal?

I have PrefControl360 installed and the controller works flawlessly with L4D2. I have scanned the Steam forums but have not have any luck (most instructions are for Steam via Windows).

I have tried the "exec 360controller" command in the console to no effect.

Is the only solution to try and find joystick.cfg and similar files and mess with those? Can't say I've been able to find the .cfg files anywhere.

And yes - I can play the game with a keyboard and mouse (former PC gamer of 25 years' experience).

Downloading the 5GB free file right now. Maybe I shoulda waited till bedtime to start the download. Good thing I joined today though =D

20th was too late for me

I signed up for Steam today which took a long time for various reasons. When I added Portal to the cart it said $9.99. So I have to just download the mac demo to see what it is about.
