Portfolio page Revamp - Feedback Appreciated

Hello everyone,

as an assignment for one of my classes, I am redesigning my design portfolio website. At this point, I only have the front page ready. I am a freelancer, but I "operate" under a company name finestudio.

I would appreciate if I could get any feedback on what I have so far - both on the design, as well as the copy.

Known issues:
1) IE <7: SUCKS I decided to use transparent PNGs, and I am thinking of leaving a note for IE6-and-less users, to upgrade their browsers! But considering there's still a considerably large piece of the browser usage pie taken by IE6... I might have to find a different solution (pngfix doesn't work, as I use PNGs as background images).
2) Once again, only front page is ready so far.
3) Some features, such as text-shadow, will only work in webkit browsers and Opera 9.5b (as far as I know)
4) I am not a native-English speaker, so there might be some wrong grammar in the copy!!!

IE may be bad, but great designers can design for them too.

I haven't looked at your code but I'm guessing you used transparent PNGs for the glowing hovers in your navbar? That's tacky anyway. I'd drop it for the sake of saying "my site is cross browser cross platform."

Also, it's sort of busy, there are too many lines, colors etc. on the screen. You want to use forms to distinguish certain elements but everything seems to want to stand out on your site.

Also, strawberries?

And that blue doesn't go well with that grey. Looks muted.

I second all the above and add:

in reference to busy - you use 3 types of content boxes. 1 traditional square cornered box, 1 rounded corner box, and 1 hybrid fad into rounded corners at the bottom. It's busy, unfocused, and a little tacky.
