Hey guys, just bringing an idea from another forum over here. What we do is post our portfolios, discuss techniques, and how you did what you did. You also get a chance to connect with others and critique them on their works. Also, discuss what you do, and your favorite type of design.

Ill start off!

I'm 13. And have been somewhat freelancing for about a year. My favorite type of design is Identity Design. I just feel I'm good at it...

I just wanted something simple to show off what i do. Something a potential client can see and want to know more without spending there time and flipping through endless pages.

Your surge logo is fantastic, especially for a 13 year old. Keep at it!

There's more to an identity and branding than just a logo though. I'd take it one step farther. Take that surge logo and see how it's applied on cups, menus, aprons, etc. Figure out the type of language the company uses when talking to customers. What typefaces are used with the logo? What color palettes? Put all that together and you'll have a great portfolio piece. Many corporations post their brand standards guides on their websites. They're definitely worth browsing through.

Thank you! I know about the cups and stuff, as I did it with my first version. The language and stuff like that is english, as this was just a concept that was a requirement at Graphic Design camp. Colour combinations I had trouble coming up with, and after I uploaded it, I realized how much it looked like Gatorade owned coffee.

Also, since I am so young, how would I get my Art promoted and viewed by companies etc? Because everyone I tell that I design logos says something clever about using like Paint.net or something...

I happen to be a lumberjack... After looking at your deviant and what's listed on there, i have a hard time believing this. Pretty sure NAU wouldn't hire a 13 year old to re-design a team's jersey. How did you first come about this job?

Great to see another Jack on here! But Jerseys? I put courts, haha. My dad is a football coach there, and he was talking to the volleyball coach who saw some of my work, and he said he wanted me to design some courts for the Rolle Center. So I did, and he said he would talk to the people who have the final say on it. Last time I heard from him about it though was about a month or two ago. Why would I lie about that?

Thanks! Your work is awesome. Do you freelance or have you been signed to a design firm?

Cheers buddy.
How have you been marketing yourself?

I've been Professional for over 20 years and freelance for 2. Not by choice, but it's working out. I've been freelancing for the same agency for 6 months, which is very nice as they are one of the top branding agencies in the world.

My dream job was being Senior Designer for Sony. Always being first to get our hands on PSPs, PS3s, travelling to Japan, etc etc. Unfortunately, when the recession hit, our office was closed in the City (London) and was moved out to the HQ building... (in the middle of nowhere) so we all received redundancy payouts.

I've only put a few projects on Behance.. but there is a new one coming soon.... ;)

Can't wait to see the new design! I don't really know how to market myself, really. Ive just talked to some artists and a few of my art teachers I know to spread the word. One of my teachers got me a gig to paint a mural. ;/ Otherwise Im not really known.

You're 13 bud. You don't need to worry about marketing yourself just yet. Getting a side job here and there, especially at 13 is something that is definitely good for your future, but I don't know how serious someone in the industry is going to take it if you put, "designed a logo for so and so at age 13." You've got a while before you're going to have a job at a firm, and keep at what you're doing, but you will be taught all the things you need to know at college/university. I go to the Art Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The teachers are all great here. You've got a while to go, and I'm sure whatever university you end up at will have great teachers too. Just stop worrying about marketing yourself so much at 13, just hone your skills right now, maybe start worrying about that at around 17, when you're about to head off to university :)

By the way, my website is http://legacycreativestudio.com
It's not done, and I've really been slacking on it, sorry :(
That's not actually even what the website will look like at all. The only thing that is even remotely the same is the logo, and the background color. I'll keep you updated as to when it's finished so you can check it out :)
