Going next week to get a 3gs at the local Att store. Will the number transfer happen immediately or will I get a temp ATT number until the transfer goes through? Also, how long does the port usually take?

I did just this last week. The ATT rep said that for three hours both of my phones would be in "duel mode." Both phones would recieve the same calls/texts/emails etc.

10 minutes after I walked out of the store, my Tmo phone said "no service" & my iphone was getting all my emails/texts/etc. The ATT guy forgot to give my line a data plan (HOW?!) so I didn't get that until I actually called about an hour later. (My SO ported his number from Verizon the same day & his had data services 45 minutes after we left ATT).

Hope that helps!

They will tell you in the store that it takes up to 3 hours for a port, but as mentioned above most time it only takes between 10-45 mins.

Try to call in the att customer support and let them know that you are porting your number 2 days in advance. I did this and my port was near instant.
