One of my two '09 Mac Pros has exhibited very strange behavior on two occasions, the latest being this morning. Just before heading off to work, I noticed that I had left some apps running all night and started to close everything out. It seemed as if something was fighting me. I'd close a window and it would reopen. Apps started launching, seemingly at random. I started to think I was in a haunted house when drawers opened and shut by themselves and apps started launching in sequence from the dock. Just weird. I finally managed to restart (the mouse too seemed demonic) after a real struggle. I felt like I was the patsy on scare tactics. After restart things seemed normal. Does this sound like a virus? Memory leak? Mac senile dementia? This machine has done this once or twice before, with long intervals of perfect function in between but this last time was actually the weirdest and most demonic. Restarting seems to help. Perhaps a bag of garlic will prevent recurrence. Do I call an exorcist or Dr. McAffee, or do I find I nice clean place with smiling attendants who will feed my Mac filtered power and wheel it out to play bingo with the old G4s, Quadras and SE-30s? I actually came close to pulling the plug on it this morning but I know that would have been just wrong...

Anyone?

Yikes! That behavior sounds like someone has remote control. Does it do it when you disconnect from the internet?

I disconnected it from my router when the apps started opening unbidden from the dock, unfortunately well into the haunting. Weirdness didn't stop immediately but started diminishing in intensity. I thought the same thing at the time. Maybe time for a VPN. Any way to trace the responsible spook?

Backup. Format. Reinstall.

...always nice to have a clean system. Blow away the cobwebs, so to speak! ;)

Bummer. You're right. I guess I'll have to. Pro'ly just some fun-loving neighborhood tykes but I won't feel secure until I do just that. What's worse is I'll have to change every frolicin' password I have. I hope I still have a bank account. Damn, I feel so...dirty.

Seriously, anyone know if there are any logs or other files I should check for forensic purposes?
