I cut the cord in my home after three Tivo units got destroyed by a power surge that went through the coax in my home.

Got rid of Verizon cable. Using them for Internet only.

I need to purchase 3 Apple TV devices.

Tough decision to go out and buy them today knowing that there is a hardware event on September 9th.

Any guesses as to whether we will see a new Apple TV announced at that event? Has a new Apple TV ever been announced at an iPhone event?

buy from apple (or other major retailer) , and you should be able to return within 30 days, apple will still do that even if a new model comes out.
if you don't have any other options at home to deal with your TV needs, you could always get one now, and wait till next week on the others, that way if a new one does come out, you only have to return one (or just get 2 of the newer ones, and keep the one "old" one, depending on the new features and if you need them)

from wikipedia, release dates, so September announcements aren't unheard of, but no rumors of any new features coming that might need new hardware.

I had my 2017 64GB ATV on ebay (from last year when I didn't need it) and it sold yesterday. Now I need a new one for the bedroom TV, so I ordered a 64GB from Walmart with a 30 day return. I'm waiting till next week to open it in case a new model is introduced.

I didn't see any need to put a 128GB in the bedroom, since there's no router nearby, so I got a 64GB version. There's a 128GB downstairs, wired to the wifi router.

I am going to wait until Monday's announcement. Only a few more days away.

I love the way Apple forces you to buy the 128GB version if you want an ethernet connection </sarcasm>

I really hope I am wrong. If they do announce one I will be straight on it. I watch 99% of my content through Apple TV and its various apps.

There's no way they would waste time at the iPhone keynote to announce another Apple TV 4K refresh. It will be a press release at most.

The current Apple TV 4K is not slow by any means and it's even faster on the iOS 18 beta.

So, unless they have something that requires new features or there's a manufacturing change (to cut costs), I guess we'll keep waiting.

"Apple TV 4K and HomePod with screen

Apple TV 4K and screened HomePod are among the devices expected to meet users in 2024. It is said that the updated Apple TV 4K will have a better chip. HomePod is expected to have an LCD screen with the revision. We have previously you that the new HomePod, which is expected to turn into a smart screen, may appear in 2024 ."
It could be a post written while chewing gum on the beach.

An IT news site writes that a new device may be introduced. I am thinking of ordering it after I see that it is not in the presentation.

I'm lost.
Would like to see one released as I could use one. My parents' one is the original 4k and its still runs as well as the day it booted up. So if I have to buy a 2 year old verison, no biggie. They seem to last.

There haven’t been any rumors but Apple has announced new Apple TVs in September in the past
This is mostly true, but there was a rumor earlier this year or last year about a new ATV coming soon, and there has been rumors of a gaming ATV for the last 12 years.

Even still, there has been a few new ATVs launched without any new rumors prior to the announcement. I don't think there was any new rumors with the ATV3, nor the ATV4K3 prior to their launches.

The ATV has always had unreliable rumors as well. The ATV4's rumors was that it was going to be a "console-killer" gaming platform with graphics capabilities in-between seventh and eighth generation consoles, and what we got was the A8, 200MB app size limit, and the Siri Remote requirement for all games. Apple had to backpedal on the last two with a tvOS update.

All that said, I wouldn't hold my breath for a new ATV at the iPhone event.

Barring some unexpected redesign, I think the ATV product line is in basically maintenance mode from a hardware perspective. They'll update it when the SoC used in the ATV when every other Apple product using that SoC is discontinued.

As of right now, the A15 in the ATV is also used in the iPhone 14, iPhone SE 3rd gen, and iPad Mini 6th gen. All products that Apple is currently selling as new.

That might change tomorrow or later this fall. If Apple discontinues the iPhone 14, announces an updated 4th gen iPhone SE, and announces a spec-bumped iPad Mini 7th gen, then I would be very confident that they're going to spec-bump the ATV concurrently as well. There are fairly credible rumors that all of the above iPhone and iPad product line changes will happen in fall of 2024.

EDIT: September 9 event came and went. Apple is still selling as new the iPhone 14, iPhone SE 3rd gen, and iPad Mini 6th gen. Looks like the A15 is here to stay for a while; and thus so is the current-gen ATV.

The ATV4's rumors was that it was going to be a "console-killer" gaming platform...

It won't matter what kind of hardware the ATV packs - it'll never be a "console-killer" without AAA console game titles on board. (An official Apple controller wouldn't hurt, either)

Physics still applies they can't get that level of power out of their magical little 5w or whatever chips.

Zero - it remains a "hobby" when they have the tech now to turn it into a great gaming system but for some reason won't bother.

They have their gaming platform, it's iPhone. They don't want to cut into iPhone App Store sales. The apps on TV thing is practically dead. They are pivoting Apple TV to sell video content, that's it.

New Apple loves ads and subscriptions.
