Anyone know if this would be possible? Going on vacation on October 8 and it would be nice to have a new machine, to replace my 2013 Air, to take with me for a month.

The 16" Pro is a real possibility. Won't see the 13" Pro with the same design cues until next year. Spring would be my best guess as it would just be far too soon after the last minor refresh.

The Ice Lake CPUs suitable for the 13” have been released and they bring some serious performance improvements with them (albeit situational). There are also leaks of Navi 12/14 that might be announced on 7. September. No new CPUs for 15” for a while though. Still, the rumored 16” with faster GPUs could be a nice thing.

This all again puts Apple in an awkward position. If they upgrade the 13” to Sunny Cove this autumn, they will get the 13” that outperforms the 15” in some benchmarks. If they don’t, the competition will be ahead. Curious to see how they respond. At least one of the Sunny Cove SKUs is a 28W part though, a TDP used almost exclusively by Apple, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we see it in a 13” rather soon.

It appears that recently Apple have become more aggressive in their upgrades, so I would not be surprised to see a 13” upgrade.

Do you have any links re the Navi GPUs?

there have been leaks of Navi 14 and AMD has a press conference scheduled on 7. September, but really it’s all just speculation. At any rate I would be shocked if a 16” model comes out without a new GPU. Now that gtx 1660 is widely available even Vega Pro 20 is outclassed, and the Polaris cards in the base 15” models are just sad in comparison.

There is no way to answer the original question.
Take the old MB with you on vacation.
When you get back, go shopping for a new one!
