Possible 2011 "high end" model?

Hey everyone, just wanted to know what you all thought about there possibly being a high end model, maybe one using intel HD Graphics 3000+
AMD Radeon HD 6490M with 256MB GDDR, similar to the macbook pro's setup.

Just curious what people think, thanks!
 
I doubt it. I don't see the Mini getting close enough to the iMac to cause any performance overlap between the two models.
 
In a word NO. The Mini is Apple's entry level introduction to the world of Mac added to which with the present form factor there would be all sorts of issues surrounding heat dissipation and physically accommodating what you suggest. Your options remain MBP iMac Mac Pro or a Windows based solution.
 
Can't see it in any circumstances as Apple won't do anything with the Mini that'd risk cannibalizing their highly profitable iMac lines.

Just an idea, but if you want a graphically-capable headless desktop, maybe get a cheaper Mini for OS X specific work & a more powerful PC alongside for more GPU-intensive stuff, eg. games. In my experience, Windows 7 is at least as reliable as OS X, though doing some things in OS X still seems a lot more intuitive.
 
I doubt it. As far as apple is concerned the iMac is the midrange desktop. If anything they will go back to having a cheaper and less powerful base Mac Pro, but I think even that is unlikely.
 
thanks the replies everyone, glad my dreams just got crushed:D guess ill have to either work with a crappy imac screen or just get a PC. sure wish they had a decent mid-machine without a monitor.

Only buy the iMac if you adore your own reflection and are incredibly handsome. :D

thanks for the laugh. its such a shame, throw a decent screen on the machine and i would be all over it, but unfortunately i cant stare at my reflection for that many hours a day!

I actually have the iMac and I'm hoping for a Mini refresh so I can ditch my Mac. I find it really wrecks my eyes, makes me feel very sleepy after using it for a while and also gives me stinking headaches, something which I don't get using my 24" matte PC screen.
 
People have been threading for years about the desire for an xMac, which would be like a mini-tower between mini and MacPro All the enthusiasts would want it but apple won't build one.

Same here. Although I'm planning on getting rid of my i3 21.5" imac regardless. Don't get me wrong the screen is great for movies and general activities, just a huge pain for my ever worsening eyes to cope with when I'm working on Photoshop etc.

I'll buy the mini on day one if it came with at least similar specs to the low end imac. Hell if it can be configurable with any quad cpu, ill be running to the nearest shop money in hand!
 
I think it'd be reasonable to suggest that the high end mini model would have the same dual core i7 processor that the high end MBP 13" model has right now... if it did, I'd be instantly sold on the machine and would buy one up without hesitation :)

As far as graphics are concerned, it seems very very likely we'll be limited to (I don't want to say stuck, because I don't think they're terrible graphics) the integrated HD3000 graphics.

I'm also not even going to hold my breath, but I think it would be nice if we saw a triple channel memory system in this generation of minis... at least then we could have a maximum of 12GB of RAM using what laptop RAM is currently available.
 
I think there's quite a bit of room for a 'high end' Mini that doesn't go as far as to step on the iMac's toes, so to speak. Although it would be nice to have a high-end Mini that matches the low-end iMac (or even the high-end iMac's) stats. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Well, a fellow can dream, can't he?
 
I don't understand apples reluctance. The way they market the iMac, those target consumers would be unlikely to buy a box with no monitor, no keyboard, no mouse.

Yet by not making something more attractive to enthusiasts, you see people turning to windows 7 machines for gaming etc, or building hackintoshes.

Just feels like they are leaving money on the table. They could literally just reuse either the Imac or MBP internals in a basic box which would satisfy many of us.
