So I washed my Airpods the other day. Yep the case and both pods, the entire wash cycle. I've got them in rice but I'm thinking I'm out of luck. I was pricing a new set when I see on their website Apple has them for $143 as opposed to $159 everywhere else. Does anyone think this could possibly be an indication they will be releasing the Airpods 2 soon or just wishful thinking on my part. Wondering if I just go with the $143 or suffer a while to see if they release the newer version soon. Thoughts?

Wishful thinking.
Rumours say they want to release in Q1 an small update of the airpods, a new version shall follow in 2020.
But if they want to release it in spring, they won't do it until june I guess.
Looking at Apple’s site now, the AirPods are priced at $159.00. Not sure where you’re seeing $143.00.
As for version two of the AirPods, 2019 has been rumored heavily, but no speculation of when exactly, likely it could be anywhere from spring until the fall.
The runtime on mine has degraded (I use them daily and have not been easy on the batteries, and find after 11-12 months of use I am again down to 3 hour use max from full charge -- this is my second pair). I have been looking to replace them but am trying to hold out to see if the rumoured refresh is indeed forthcoming. I notice in the UK the lead-time for delivery is 3+ weeks and they are sold out in the London Apple stores. Probably wishful thinking on my part, but perhaps a sign that a replacement is coming? Given the return policy I would think Apple will trail off sales of Gen1 models before releasing Gen2. Or, it could just be that they were all sold out during Christmas....
