Possible Apple Store opening near me, interested in working there. In wheelchair.

Just a small update. Talked to a manager at an Apple store and they said that they themselves have hired disabled people even ones in wheelchairs, and that I should apply if that new store opens, she said I should definitely be considered.



Hello, there was a big article in the paper about Apple being "in talks" in having a retail store in our area, if so, near the end of the year. I'm very interested in working there but I'm in a wheelchair and have Cerebral Palsy. I'm currently working in computers and portable electronics at Best Buy. I've been employed with the company since August 2010. I have a B.S. from USF in Elementary Education. I feel as through I can stand behind the Apple Brand as I truly believe in it and have been a loyal customer for as long as I can remember. I also feel as though I could teach others about mac systems and such and how their products are used. However, the Apple stores I have been in the displays have been very high making it very difficult for me to access the products. Has this changed recently? I would like to work six hours at a time instead of eight because I tend to very sore in my wheelchair. I work six at Best Buy just fine. Do you think they would consider hiring me given all of this? I have always wanted to work with Apple in some capacity and feel as though this may be my chance.

After watching Pirates of Silicon Valley, Steve Jobs is one of the biggest bigots I have ever seen and met.. He doesn't believe the disabled have any lives or any meaningful contribution to anything.. Personally, I wouldn't work for Apple since they DO discriminate against those with disabilities. Proof is how Jobs discriminated against the employee from IBM who wanted to work there.. There is a lot of proof and realism in that movie to justify Steve Job's bigotry. I think its damn wrong of them to discriminate anyone out of a job.

You are better off with an office job or some admin type of position which will pay around 30k to start, and also realize retail owns you. You don't make your own hours at all and you sell yourself to the highest bidder. I hope one day retail falls away as its a one way ticket to high stress and depression.

My 2 cents worth. At least Bill Gates has compassion to those who have disabilities and other problems.. but Jobs could care less - hence what was portrayed in the movie about him. He is a narccissist and doesn't care about anyone but himself.

Sounds like you are a good worker and a respectable person, so I don't see why they wouldn't hire you.

Make sure that there is indeed going to be an Apple Store opening up first. Then, try to find the contact information for that Apple Store and apply! You have absolutely nothing to lose.

I think it will probably depend on the manager himself/herself. Some will be willing to give you an opportunity, and accommodate your shortcomings (no offense), while others will just turn you down without ever giving you a chance. The best thing to do is apply and see.


I'd give you the same advice regarding ANY job you apply to.
