So tonight I went to a concert in Indianapolis, IN in Lucas Oil Stadium. The place was packed with tens of thousands of people. Anyway, Indianapolis has 3G (I think it is still the only city in Indiana that does). However, the entire time I was in the stadium (from 4:45 p.m. until midnight), my phone would do nothing. It registered full bars the entire time, but I could not make/receive calls (call failed / went straight to voicemail), send/receive text messages (send error), nor go online (just plain nothin'). I tried everything, I restarted my phone, did a soft reset, turned airplane mode on then off, tried 3G and EDGE both, but still my phone would do nothing even though it said I had full bars. Also a symbol which I have never seen before, would occasionally pop up while at the same time my signal would go from full to 2-3 bars, but then it would disappear and I would have full signal again. I managed to get a screenshot:

I was quite worried and figured I'd have to make a trip to the Apple store, however as soon as I was clear of the stadium, my phone was fully functional. Could something in the stadium have interfered with my phone so much that it completely stopped functioning?

Also, I've talked with several other iPhone owners who were there and had the exact same problem

Same problem at Bears/Colts game on 9/7. Plenty of wi-fi hotspots available at first, but I couldn't keep a decent connection to them either.

Probably just too much interference. You gotta assume most of the people had cell phones around you, plus just general building interference.

Also, that "mysterious symbol" is GPRS (the user manual is a beautiful thing).
