Possible iPad defects? The usual story?

We know that Apple's first generation (or rev A) products often have various manufacturing defects. So far, we saw cracked plastic, faulty graphics card, fragile hinges, discolouring plastic, crooked keyboards, yellow tint and of course, overheating. What can we expect this time? What about the accessories?

Just a few thoughts:
- on my iPhone, the rubber around the screen is getting loose and I can slightly push the screen into the device

- that case seems to be the kind that breaks at the folding ends

- I wonder how well that keyboard will hold the iPad. Will the connector just break off after a while?

- recent unibody MBPs seem to have softer aluminium than before (when they came out in 2008). Will the iPad withstand occasional knocks?

- with this small A8 Cortex, there shouldn't be any overheating, right?




One more thing... please, do not use the words 'troll' and 'fanboy'.

I think you just have wait and see.... Its seems pointless to have a thread when no one can even touch a device.

Ok I'll play, I think that the two main candidates might be either screen discoloration and/or the black plastic piece on the top of the 3g might get to boogieing. I could also say that there might be reception issues. My iPhone drops calls like yo moma and if this product is half as popular as the naysayers were afraid it might be I would say that there may be some 3g issues in the future. But, I am sure that 4g on the next gen will probably help a bit for that. Ahhh the price we pay... Whatever it is people not unlike yourself (no offense intended) will find themselves complaining on these forums over and over again despite themselves just like in the past about every single discrepancy possible. So lets just hold off for a bit and enjoy the device while its reputation is still mostly untarnished.

If you expect problems don't buy it. Apparently, not many share those concerns looking at the pre-order estimate.

I don't think that many initial buyers worry about quality issues, anyway. I just wanted to know what people think about Apple's tablet as a format in relation to quality concerns.

My biggest concern will be the IPS screen. While IPS is a proven technology, I don't think I ever seen IPS screen this small before.

Out of 1st gen products: iphone, 12 powerbook, and 27inch i7 imac. Ive only been burned once and that was the powerbook.
I'm not to concerned about issues. >finding wood to knock on<

I actually see your point and I kind of agree. The screen is fairly large and the device is so slim that you wonder, whether one accidental drop would finish it.

I think the iPad is one of the least risky day one purchases you're going to find. Here is why.

1) It's a rather simple device. It has no hinges. It has a processor that is proven, and I think it's overall electronics are rather similar to the iPhone which has been around for years now. The aluminum back is also more sturdy than the plastic back of the current iPhones.

2) The iPhone has given Apple a lot of practice in making devices just like the iPad. Only real difference is the larger screen. The iPhone cetainly seems like a reliable device to me. I see no reason the iPad should be any different.

The only concern I can imagine is a problem with the new screen. Besides that I think it's a very safe purchase.

Most first gen products have a better bulid quality then second gen.
