Is the iPhone 12 mini the Dark Horse ?

iPhone12Table.PNG

Sounds like a psychic to me? or am
I way off?
I think a better way to contextualize it is a dark horse is a competitor not as visible that has the ability, which is not being given enough attention to, to be top dog. In this case he’s saying that the iPhone mini will potentially arise to be the most popular, most sold phone, in this 2020 batch

and if you knew this and was just being sarcastic then forgive me for the explanation. ;)

It's very simple, dark horse means horses which are dark in color like brown, black or chestnut as oppose to light horse which are born white, buckskin or cremello. Not sure what's the connection between iPhone & horses which OP has started.

Unrelated but I’ve never been on a galloping horse 🐴 . only a stationary pony. Ok why am I mentioning this. Can’t delete posts so you’re stuck with it

Translation = The OP thinks that the 5.4” mini me is going to be the most popular of all the phones once it is released, as many people are, or have been looking at the bigger model phones for years. Once reviews get out and more and more people see the new 5.4” mini me, it will be the horse that nobody bet on to win, that actually wins the race.

I think iPhone mini will sell like hot cakes that's why it's availability is pushed to Nov 13. Apple will need more time to manufacture this model because of the huge demand. Make sure your Apple Pay, addresses etc.., are all aligned for fast ordering. 😁

Why does it have to be a dark horse? Because I don't get it lol.

And that makes the most sense to me since it will have the best balance of price, size, battery life, and features.

This leak just came in.....

”Expect at least an 1 hour battery life increase for the Pro Models. As seen in internal tests, the 5.4" iPhone will perform worse than the current iPhone 11, which is expected because of its form factor.”

makes sense. I Won’t be thinking of getting the mini at all as I prize battery life the most

Globally, the demand for larger smartphones has been increasing every year. Consumers are increasing their screen time. That means demand for larger displays.

iPhone 12 mini will allow Apple to claim they offer 5G "starting at" $699. But it won't be a superstar by any means.

And what about China? Will the iPhone 12 mini be sold more than other models in Greater! China?

Rightfully so. They’re killing two birds 🐦 🐦 with one stone. They can make that claim and satisfy those that like SE sized phones. Something for everyone

I don't think you can call the 12 mini a dark horse, simply because most people already are anticipating it to be the most successful seller of this new line-up.

We'll have to wait for the final sales to judge the situation of course.

I think we’re going to see a lot of complaints on macrumors and other places about the abysmal battery life of the mini. I hope it’s not too bad

Me too. I hope its battery can hold its own despite its size. The twofold success of the iPhone 11 and new SE have proven that people appreciate budget options and smaller phones, so if you combine both those aspects well, it could be an absolute sales juggernaut. Most other phones won’t stand a chance if the mini’s battery is better than currently expected.

No one credible is predicting the iPhone 12 mini to be the best selling device in the lineup.

Kuo, who has been in this industry for over a decade, predicts a sales mix 20-25% for the iPhone 12 mini.

I’m not taking his or anyone’s word for it. This has been a strange year by every account and consumer behaviour is tending towards focusing practicality over blowing wads of cash on luxuries. A phone is one of the most widespread commodities that begins depreciating the moment it is purchased and people are going to think thrice before spending $1000 on it now more than ever. Especially since in real terms from the average consumer’s standpoint, there really aren’t any radical improvements to the iPhone 12 line up (save the boxy design).

Obviously nothing is set in stone, but I’d never rule it out with the amount of certainty that you currently are.

You can't say that with certitude.
iPhone 11 was the best selling iPhone mainly due to attractive price + average consumer is not that interested by OLED. The size was not the main reason.
If 11 Pro and 11 size were swapped do you really think the 11 Pro would be the most sold iPhone out of the 3 ?

At this stage no one knows for sure.
If I had to guess I would say both non-pro models will outsell Pro models (like the XR in 2019 and 11 in 2020) once again because the price is more accessible for average consumer while having a close look/features vs Pro models. Remember that we are not reprentative of the average consumer since we are in a Tech/Apple focused forum ;) It's normal that people here on MR is more willing to get the best/newest models vs average.
