Hi. Was in Best Buy in Canada and the sales person said that the new MBP was out of stock till probably mid August. Last night the newspaper flyers of Futureshop advertised the new white MB in 2.16 and 2.0 as limited quantities. The Best Buy flyer has the black MB 2.16 as limited quantities, no rainchecks. Makes me think that maybe Apple is ready to release Leopard early - giving retailers a heads up to clear out stock. Maybe want to release it say mid August for back to school to create a buzz about Apple than waiting till everyone has already bought. Also, remember another poster stating that Leopard was complete and ready to go. Seems the iphone release went smoothly, so perhaps they are sitting around at Apple thinking what should we do now with all the time we have. But then again what do I know.

Leopard would have to have gone GM by now frankly to have it ready to go mid-August.

those low stock warnings could mean revisions coming soon (would be awesome) but I imagine it might just be them selling faster than those stores expected. Also the mbp is having delay issues, specifically the new led display I believe I've read.

The reason Apple wants its retailers to clear out stock is to get ready for the new iMac revisions, supposedly coming early August. Honestly, as far as Apple is concerned, a major OS revision is nowhere near as significant as a hardware revision, since Apple doesn't sell its OS to the masses the way it sells its hardware. Thus, Leopard will still come out in October, just as scheduled.

BTW... Amazon has given Leopard's release date as October 31... Just like Apple... Releasing a product on time, but as late as possible. :p (Just like the iPhone's June release date was honestly closer to July...)

Well, I was at the Apple Store last night and all the iMacs from the kids desk were gone. Coincidence? You decide...

No, Leopard is not magically coming out two months early. It still has a fair amount of development to finish before its ready for even RC. They wouldn't release it in mid-August solely for some back-to-school reasons, since most people/institutions will be putting in their orders before a mid-August release it wouldn't make any sense. And I'm not sure about you but I'll take much more reliable sources than "some random poster said Leopard is ready to go" any day, thanks.

I don't understand why Apple or any other company can announce a release date, slightly later than the actual date it will release. Like, Apple could have said the iPhone will be released in July, and then we would all be surprised when it came out in June. Its a win-win Apple.

Because then if everyone does it, we aren't surprised anymore...eh? Some companies may not like purposefully misleading their customers, either.

Not to mention that then you see critics using the "well it would be better if they hadn't released it early" line, even though in reality they would simply cook up a different excuse for the some problems if it was released later.

Hrm... probably not a leopard early release.. but more likely getting ready for revisions on other mac's. Probably just clearing out remaining inventory so they aren't trying to offload older models when new stuff comes in.
