It appears there may be a problem with multiple active GPUs and Mountain Lion.

The defects appears to go away if stop using monitors so that only one GPU is in video output service at a time.

Sure looks like Apple QA set-up is either lax or unimaginative. Lax if didn't catch this in testing. But more likely unimaginative, skips testing completely the BTO configuration that has two graphics card.

FCPX choking on the app spread over multiple GPUs seems indicative that it is the latter above.

There is also a problem if you try to use external monitors in a rotated configuration.

I know you have mentioned this here, but I'm using two monitors, one being rotated 90 degrees with no issues at all (GTX680)

Ironically the my 570GTX is running just fine - the problem is occurring with the original 8800 card...

I think it may have to do with having multiple cards in the system rather than multiple monitors and a single card.
