why are we care? if you're not most geek or working for IT computer company where deals with a lot of servers, you don't have to worry about it. even most people don't know what raid is. so I don't care. the difference of performance is very subtle. we don't even recognize it. pass it.

Well considering the Woodcrest is a SERVER CPU I think this is huge news, but look at where the information comes from The Inquirer via Slashdot, anyone got any real sources on this?

disclaimer: I am a geek working for an IT company.

The trouble with this line of thinking, is at the end of the day code is just code. So whatever making the RAID operations slow is going to impact you too, think of your so called "Pro" apps.

By the way even more worrying, it seems to affect the entire family of chips, seems like your dear beloved Woodcrest *cough* PowerMacs are going to be affected too. Can't be too complacent shall we?

Raid5

Anyone running host-based RAID5 is silly, especially when hardware RAID controllers are so cheap these days. Intel needs to fix it, but it isn't a show stopper for the huge number of customers buys Woodcrest and Conroe. And I sure wouldn't expect laptop folks (with Merom) to be doing host-based RAID5 to an external array.
