Possible? SDTV?

I'm a mostly-poor grad student. I've got a 5-ish year old 27" Samsung CRT which supports only 480i (best available connection is Component Video). We don't have cable, but watch OTA digital with a series2 TiVo. We also have Netflix. It would be nice to get Netflix Stremaing and some other web & media content in our meager entertainment system.

Since a new HDTV + TiVo is out of the question right now... is there any way to get the Apple TV converted to watch on my current television? I guess the other option is a Roku box but from what I've seen, I like the Apple interface better.

In a similar boat, I actually use my PS3 to stream MPEG-4 content to my SDTV.

Works for Netflix, too, and you can probably pick up a prior-generation PS3 on the cheap.

And even upgrade the hard drive (standard 2.5" laptop drive) manually if you wanted to store everything locally.

Isn't there a Netflix app for Wii now?

No PS3, no Wii. I'm in school and on top of that work more than full-time hours for not all that much pay. We're considering the BD route. For some reason that just seems strange to me without an HDTV but I suppose it's not all that much different. It also seems a shame to replace a perfectly fine DVD player.
