Hi all,

Ok here's the deal....

I'm thinking of buying a notebook when Duo 2 is out. But one of my main concerns is compatibility with other devices. What i would like to do, which i can do faultless on a PC is have my laptop sync'd with my Mobile/PDA unit. Now the Mobile/PDA unit is running Windows Mobile 5. I have not committed to buying this unit yet so i could always go with the Symbian OS on the Sony Ericsson P990i.

If i was to buy a Macbook Pro, i need to have the function to sync the notebook with my Mobile device. So that includes Calendar, E-Mail etc... It would be great to hear if anyone in this forum has done this?

One luxury of getting the Asus V6J running win xp is that i can sync all my music in Media Player 11 to the Windows media player on the PDA/Mobile device. Now if i was to get the mac there is only a couple of phones that would sync with iTunes on the mobile device. ( and from what i hear, iTunes sucks on mobiles )

It's a tough one, because i would like to switch but there are many things that i would like to have and need to have that might not work.

Thanks in advance

Darren

Have you considered a Blackberry at all?

They announced some Mac-Bberry sync software a while ago (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/01/13/rim_supports_mac/). The only thing you'd be missing out on would be iTunes integration. I suppose the pertinent question is whether iTunes/WMP(bleugh!) integration is the important factor for you, here.

If you were to find a decent syncing option with a Sony phone/PDA, they provide a reasonable listening experience (though not close to having an iPod, obv), and mine supports AAC files (of the non-protected kind), which is a must.

Or there's this

Just some thoughts, anyway.

For most PDAs Missing Sync from Markspace does an excellent job of syncing handheld to mac. However, they are not quite there with WM5 yet. There is more info at this link:

http://www.markspace.com/wm5.html

For what it's worth, I still don't think you can beat a palm OS PDA (having switched to a WM5 Jasjar recently and then back to my lifedrive + VX3), ...but the last thing I want to do is start a PDA war here!;)
