Possible ThunderBolt eGPU Solution? Razer Core

Hey Guys & Possible Ladies ;)

I've been waiting for a long time now for a possible solution to a fully working solution for a ThunderBolt eGPU.

Razer has just announced a ThunderBolt eGPU solution called Razer Core...

Sadly its ThunderBolt 3 and there's no pricing set yet for public view, so it might not work with ThunderBolt 1&2 and it could be pricey.

I kinda have fingers crossed though, I guess we'll see.

Thunderbolt 3 is supposed to be downwards-compatible with 1 and 2 (speed will be at the lower level). There's going to be a different connector so some type of adapter/cable will be needed. Of course, "supposed to be" and what actually happens in any specific instance may differ.

Looks like it's been confirmed that TB-3 will be backwards compatible via adapters.

I like the idea of bringing my own eGPU to my system but, at the moment it's pretty cost prohibitive. Sonnet Tech makes empty PCI thunderbolt boxes for around $350 but, to make the video cards work in it are pretty brutal from what I hear. So If this box with a user replaceable video card for upgradability down the road was around $500-600, I would think its a pretty good investment. Especially for Mac mini users.

Skylake quad core mini with an iris pro GPU and this for Windows gaming would be the perfect desktop.

I give it a .5% chance of happening, no way Apple makes drivers or a bios update for this eGPU or any of the other ones that are sure to follow.

I might get it and the blade anyways, will have to see reviews
 
I Honestly doubt Apple would make another Quad Mac Mini, they don't want something benchmarking near the Mac Pro which would effect sales of the higher end system.
 
Hah, how appropriate. The case looks almost exactly like the old Mac Pro.
 
I've been sub'ed into this thread for a bit, waiting for more to come out about the Core.
