I'm popping back to the apple store to exchange my iphone for another one (i've gone from black to white and now back to black again). I don't want to lug my laptop there but I'll be there for the evening and would like to be synced. Can I burn a copy of the backup itunes makes to a disc then take that with me, import it to one of the computers in-store, restore from a backup to my new iphone and delete the original files from the in-store machine?
Seems like it should be possible.
Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers,
James.

While technically it is possible, I'd say it depends more on whether the Apple store will allow you to do it. And I'm going to suspect they won't.

I think they have a newer policy now where no user data is to be loaded on a store machine. Don't know if they'll bend that for you for "just music".

Well, it's not music; it's contacts, text messages, email settings, general settings, applications etc.

If I were to upload it to a webserver such as sendspace I'm sure I could download it in-store onto a demo model. I doubt they'd mind seeing as how I would delete it afterwards. I'm just wondering how, practically, I could do that.

The iPhone backups are saved in a folder somewhere in your ~/Library folder. Find the one you want and move it to the same folder on another computer and then you can restore from it. I am sure it will give you errors if the new computer does not have the same playlists and stuff on it, so you might want to make sure you dont have any music or apps on the phone when you do this.
