I have an @iCloud.com email address but it's not used to sign into my Apple ID, as I use another personal email address for that. I would however like to start using my iCloud address for email (not to sign in) but when I made it... well I didn't choose something worth using as an email so I'd like to change it. So is it possible to change the @iCloud.com email address to something else? Even if it's not used to sign in? Thanks.

If I understand you correctly, you want to change a iCloud email account (that is not used to make Apple ID purchases) to something more suitable. If that is correct, the answer is no, you cannot change the name of an established Apple ID account. However, you do have two options.

1) Create a suitable email alias that is tied to the iCloud account you want to change. You can then use the alias and people won't have to see the name of the actual iCloud account.

2) Create a new Apple ID that is more suitable to you. Doing this is good if you want to be as anonymous as possible.

If I were in your tech shoes, I would exercise option 2.

Exactly. So basically this....
- something@icloud.com <-- Want to change this "something" to abcd@icloud.com to literally use for email.
- personal email address <-- Is my Apple ID / Used to sign into Apple and make purchases.

So I guess it's not possible then

I'm not sure I'd want to create a new Apple ID account, I've been using mine for over a decade now.

Create an email alias. It is easy.

if you are signed into icloud with your personal email, go and click on mail and it will ask you to create an email address. If you don't want to have 2 separate sign ins, you can create an icloud email with your personal email apple id.

I'm in the same boat. I chose my @icloud.com name and have since matured. I also realize my name would be confusing and emails often sent to another address.

But if I am reading this correctly, I am basically stuck with this email for life?
