Like everyone else, I get way too much spam. I have server-side spam filtering enabled plus a server-side whitelist, but some whitelisted non-spam emails are still getting moved into the spam folder on the server side, particularly my Informed Delivery emails from the U.S.P.S.

Is it possible to create a rule in Mail that would find and move emails from certain domains from Junk to the Inbox if they were moved to Junk on the server side (and not by the Mail app itself)? Thanks.

My understanding is that Apple Mail rules operate only on messages coming into the Inbox. So if the mail server has put them in its Junk folder, you are stuck with that. I can see two potential solutions:

1. Server side settings that mark the messages as spam (e.g. in message subject) but leave them in the Inbox. Then Apple Mail rules will apply. This may or may not be possible - you don't say what service or product you use for your mail server.

2. Applescript to write your own rules operating on the Junk folder. This should not too hard for an AppleScript expert, but harder for mere morals. It would probably need to be run at regular intervals.

Quite agree with @gilby101 , there could be a rule on the server site that is transferred to your email app, hovewer you can also create a rule to move things out of junk folder to your inbox or other email folders (blocking and email management will work differently depending on your email provider).
Have you tried creating a rule like that? Here's how it looks like on Monterey

Thanks. Yes, I tried that, but, unfortunately, that rule appears to only filter incoming messages and not those already sitting in the Junk folder due to server-side spam filtering.

Please tell us what Mail server product/service you are using and, if you know, what spam filtering product is used on the server. It would be much easier to assist if we knew with what you are fighting.

The email included with LiquidWeb's Cloud Sites, which was formerly Rackspace Cloud.

The email included with LiquidWeb's Cloud Sites,
Have you tried reaching out to their support team about configuring Liquid Web's "custom email filtering" to your needs?

I am sure there is no easy way to undo the server side spam filtering in Apple Mail, though you can do it with AppleScript. Here is an example for rescuing messages put in junk by SpamSieve https://c-command.com/scripts/spamsieve/apple-mail-rescue-good-messages. You would need something similar.

Thanks. I'll reach out to LiquidWeb to ask why their whitelist fails at times.
