Possible to purge 18.8GB "Other" data without setting up iPhone from scratch?

Hi,

Is there anyway to fix this without restoring the phone from scratch?

What caused it?

Was draining the battery with video recording, the battery was at 1% then shutdown, but the video did not save out properly it appears so now there is probably a temp file on the filesystem not accessible by the UI (not JB) and it probably cannot be deleted unless I erase everything and start over? Already read all of the "other" threads and tried those items, no luck.

Seems like formatting is the only way to fix it..

Formatting it fixed it..

I tried formatting it and restoring.. FAILED (still 18.8GB)
I tried formatting it and restoring after deleting the 3 movies taking up 18.8GB (in the iTunes backup directory on PC) but when I went to restore it said iTunes could not restore because the backup was corrupted.

So I had to format and not restore, what a pain.

Lesson learned, never record video if the battery is low.

Hi,

One other note for other people, after seeing thousands of posts for the question as to: "How do I get my pictures back in the camera roll?"

Two-step process:

1. drop2roll (Imported > 1000 pictures via FTP in 1 swoop--done)
2. Photo Transfer App (Imports movies (10 at a time limit), drop2roll only imports pictures)

So now I have everything back indexed (and it keeps the same order as well (pics/movies)).

One item though-- the EXIF data (GPS coordinates) were lost in most of the pictures. So if you do this you may want to copy the pictures off with the Transfer Photo App first instead of copying them from the DCIM folder (that may fix it, but I did not do that).

Update:: Transfer Photo App is supposed to retain all of the EXIF data, I will try to use that instead for the pictures-- drop2roll is awesome (mass batch-- but it drops the EXIF data).

Final update, Transfer Photo App worked and all pictures contain full EXIF data!

Only pain is you can only do 100 pictures at a time.

There's a program you can download for your Mac or PC (I forget the name), but it allows you to browse through the files on your iPhone and delete as necessary. There's a folder called AppArchives or something like that and sometimes a bunch of corrupted app zip folders are left behind in there.

I had about 2GB being taken up by other - looked in the AppArchive folder and there was a 2GB zip file for the app 'Rage' (which I had deleted from my phone weeks before) just sitting around. Deleted that - and got my space back.
