Is it possible to remove the keys from a MacBook? A friend has just bought one but it has the French keyboard layout so wants to move the keys around to the standard layout. Can he do this or is he gonna just break the keys? Thanks.

I just checked eBay and there are no replacement keyboards for MacBooks.

We did a bit of googling today and came up with nothing, so i'm assuming that moving the keys around is not gonna happen. Are there any other options? I've seen that you can get keyboard stickers but these seem a little tacky.

Just get a US keyboard to replace the french one, much easier... Check ebay.

I don't think you'd be able to do that since the keys on a French keyboard are laid out slightly differently and are shaped differently.

That was my point, replace the entire keyboard. Their a separate component of the laptop.

I was under the impression that it was part of the upper case and therefore a nightmare to replace.

It could be I suppose but I've never seen Apple do that, they have always made their keyboards [fairly] easy to remove.

Yes it is possible!

I just converted my whole keyboard te the Dvorak layout.

Basic steps to convert are lift up the key just enough to fit a screw driver under it. Press the little piece of plastic in on the bottom left corner. Lift key to remove. Reverse process to reinstall.

The perfect answer! Thank you so much. I am about to convert my keyboard from European English to Brazilian Portuguese. All I need now is the MacBook Brazilian Portuguese keys layout.

Tks again,

Andre

I took one key out to see how easy it was. Taking the key out certainly was easy but putting it back in took me 40 mins. My advice to anyone willing to try this for fun: Do it only if you have patience and time.
