Disclaimer: I don't know all the ios jargon so please excuse me...

This is regarding a 7th generation iPad.

So my iPad started freaking out not long ago. It would randomly restart itself. I updated the ios and it stopped and figured that was that, but then it began to endlessly restart. Rarely it got to the SpringBoard. I got it to go to Restore mode and thought updating the software would help, but iTunes spat back errors. My assumption is because it's my sister's really old Macbook on macOS 12 or something. She has a new laptop on the way, but now I got the iPad stuck in Restore Mode and it won't get out (or maybe I'm doing it wrong).

Is it possible to rescue the data off my trapped-in-restore-mode iPad? My sister recently got a bigger iCloud, but it didn't fully backup to that before breaking.

Advice? Insight? Is my data gone forever?

It would be great if you know what is the iTunes error. Depending on what iOS version you're trying to restore or update to, it needs to be supported on the Mac or iTunes and also has active internet connection. You can try to update the Mac to get the latest iTunes/Finder or download the latest iTunes or try iTunes on PC to update it again. Just make sure to "Update" and not "Restore" because restore will wipe the device and reset it to factory.

So for anybody who might be able to help... My sister bought a new 13" MacBook Pro and I tried to update from restore mode after updating the macOS and making sure to use an official sync cable. For some reason the iPad kept kicking out and the download of iOS 15 kept getting corrupt. When it finally went through to the update phase I got the error 4013? Not sure what that means, but it's probably bad. I accidentally knocked it out of restore mode and am having trouble getting it back in.

If anybody can help I'd really appreciate it. I'm sure we can all relate to having important data on devices. I hadn't had the iCloud backup settings on for photos because we didn't have the extra iCloud space before this happened...?
