Possible to Switch/Combine parts from 2010 and 2011 Mini?

Does anyone know if the 2010 and 2011 are that different, I was thinking of getting a new one with the ATI card and maybe putting those components into a 2010 with the Superdrive? or just move the superdrive over to the new one and use the 2010 case?

I need a Superdrive but refuse to buy one from Apple.

I can tell you that from just doing this with mine no, you could migrate the sata cable but I didn't see the cdrom power connector in there.

I could be wrong but I bet the 2011 mother board doesnt have the conections for an ODD.
I wish they had left the ODD in the 2011 Mini, I am however still tempted to purchase one after seeing the benchmarks that are starting to filter down.
I just dont want to have an external drive taking up space on my desk.

The SuperDrive apple sells is aluminum and it doesn't look bad. Get it and put it on top of the mini

2011 mini Frankenstein Question

I was thinking of taking the logic board out of my 2011 and placing it into my 2010 chasis. The reason I am thinking of doing this is I need a Superdrive, and I would like the speed gain and performance from the 2011 base mini i5 2.3


Has anyone used Cross Mojoniation to combine the two or done any type of Frankensteining to their new Mini?

I can buy a superdrive but there are some movies I prefer to watch from a DVD drive only because of the features, and I still need a Superdrive.

I think I saw that the port needed to hook the superdrive up is gone on the new motherboard. So...yeah.

According to pictures from both iFixit and Tech-Republic there is a high probability of success.
I'm currently using HL-DT-ST CA10N Bluray drive with my Mid 2010 Mini and I want to upgrade for HD Audio with 2011 minis.

One way or other I' ll do the surgery in first week of October. For now I'm just watching the whole internet like hawk to see if anbody tried it or not

For those who offering Ext. Drives: No thank you I do not want anything in my living room besides my Marant SR7002 and Macmini This is the whole concept of HTPCs, right?

The whole concept of a HTPC is to control your entire Home Theater Experience. That includes things like watching/recording Live TV. It's not to be a glorified Blu-Ray Player and streaming box.

Buy a Blu-Ray Player and a WDTV Live or something. Save yourself $400.

I was not just talking about Blu-Ray.It was just an example for my usage scenario. My Mid-2010 Macmini already serves me for Live TV/DVR, Live TV Stream, FLAC Stream (Audiogalaxy), Pictures, Some TBs of 1080p movies etc.

Right now only missing part is HD Audio and faster real time encoding for 1080i Live TV and 1080p MKVs.
