I see all these sites where you input your imei and they unlock it, but idk if i trust it. Also not sure if i can ask this on macrumours, but just curious if there is a way to unlock the phone.
Jailbreaking has nothing to do with unlocking, at least not for some time now. Best way is to do it through the original carrier that the phone "belongs" to.

Generally the carriers would appreciate their customers completing the terms of their contracts before giving their customers the ability to just walk away leaving the carrier out the money that the customer agreed to pay when they signed up for the contract.
That's why they lock contract phones.
As said, it can't hurt to talk to them. They have been known to unlock in contract phones before. But if they say no then a third party is your only other option.
Tell ATT you are travelling abroad for Holiday and would like to use a local carrier SIM while overseas. You maybe luckly.
It is difficult to undertand why the US carriers are so strict with unlocking contract phones. In the UK almost all the carriers will unlock the phone for you perhaps after a few months service. You are still obliged to continue your contract and will be persued for the money if you try it will also affect your credit rating so just not worth it.
Considering I'm now locked into s new contract that I took from my moms upgrade. Also my mom now has her contract the same time my original one was. So really none of us are going to leave it's just that I want it unlocked. Maybe If I explain I want to use it overseas unlocked then it will be better. What are some third parties that do it?
She said no cause I still have contract with it for a year. Even though I did say it would be in a drawer and not like she would make money off of it. Now who can I use.
