I'm still running iOS 5 right now and I'd like to go to 6, but of course can't do so through iTunes anymore. I've tried setting gs.apple.com to point to cydias servers in my hosts file but it still won't authenticate, getting the useless error 3194. Many hours of googling and experimenting haven't worked, so I'm just wondering if this is even possible? Tiny umbrella says I've got shsh blobs for ios 6 too if that helps.

I've been sitting on ios 5 for the last two years so I don't Know what has changed but I'm sure it used to be possible to update to versions besides the latest. Thanks for any help

It's not possible. It's my understanding that iOS 6 blobs are useless. There was a whole failure on Cydia with iOS 6 blobs.

People much more experienced than I can explain in more detail but I think that's the gist of it.

You're stuck on 5 until the iOS 7 jailbreak is out.

You didn't say which device.....

On a 4S you can't do it.

On a iP4 or 3GS you can go to iOS6 with valid blobs, but you need to point the host file to apple instead of Cydia.

use sn0wbreeze to do so.

You need valid manually saved blobs, Cydia saved blobs for 6.0-6.1.2 don't work.

You can check with iFaith if the blobs are valid.

Ah, sorry. I'm talking about the iPhone 4S. Looks like I'm boned. Should I update to ups 7.0.4 since its safe and currently being signed by Apple? Will it be possible to wait on ups 5 until its safe then update to a safe version of 7, even if it isn't currently being signed by Apple?
