After buying my macbook pro retina (13-inch, late 2012), it was only about a year before I realised that the installed 128GB wasn't nearly enough. Therefore, being fortunate enough to have one of the last macbooks in which this is possible, I upgraded the SSD to a transcend model, boosting my storage to nearly 500GB. I cloned the old SSD and everything worked perfectly for over a year running Yosemite. But then I wanted to upgrade to El Capitan and my mac broke. Literally. It froze, blacked out on me, froze some more and was generally a complete disaster so I used a time machine backup to roll back to yosemite, which is still working fine. Whether this is just my laptop or, as I suspect, something to do with having a third party SSD installed, I don't know. So my question is this:

Should I try upgrading to Sierra (which I'd like to do as it looks pretty slick) or just carry on as I am on Yosemite? Any ideas/people who may have had similar issues appreciated.
Many thanks

Yes
Have you got a spare USB HD you can try the install on?
I installed on an external 500GB Samsung SSD with no problems.
It'd be odd if the installer minded 3rd party internal SSD's, but not external.
