Hey everyone,

I got myself a macbook 12 inch, but sometimes I just want a bigger monitor. I was thinking of purchasing one on ebay but I have a question...is it safe to close the macbook while its running? would it over heat or anything of that nature?

I bought it because I commute to college, but sometimes I just want a nice big keyboard and big monitor...any tips or suggestions?

As far as I know, if you close your Macbook it will go to sleep even if you have an external monitor attached. The best you could do is shut the lid most of the way.

I run my macbook in clamshell mode all the time. The macbooks are designed to run in clamshell (shut lid) mode--whereas the ibooks were not.

I run my macbookpro in clamshell, but elevated on 4 little vial caps, one on each foot of the computer.

If I'm going to game or do something very processor and graphic intensive, I usually open the computer screen (which remains off) to further allow for heat dissipation.
