Not 100% certain I am gonna get it but I am fairly certain it will happen. Im quite excited. I have wanted one since they came out. I have already begun converting my shows for my iPod with the TV high quality settings so Im gonna be ready to start watching right away. Very excited!!!!

soon as slingbox announces support for the iphone I'll be buying a apple TV to go along with the DVR. hopefully by then we see an update to apple TV...that would be pretty sweet!
Congratulations. I waited a while to get mine too (got mine in early August). It was a great purchase for me. I really like mine.
For things you don't need on the iPod too, you can use even higher settings, since Apple TV supports very high bit rates compared to iPod and iPhone.
Don't forget Hand Brake for DVD conversions too.

As long as you don't expect more than what the box can do, you, too, will be happy. Don't make the common mistake of expecting Apple to "fix this, update that, add some feature." Buy the box for the current feature set, and you'll be thrilled.

im just looking forward to placeshifting my music and videos. If the quality that is put out (part of that is my conversion settings) as good as the dvds that I create from divx files I will be just fine. I am sure I wont be dissapointed. There of course is a list of things I wish it could do, but I dont expect it to do those things now. It will be easier than burning a dvd every time that I want to watch a tv show on my tv or look at my pictures. My only concern is how it will perform with streaming nearly everything. But I have found that that is something that changes with everyones setup. Im pretty excited about it.
I can stream from my office to the
TV in the living room using 802.11g Airport Express router without any stuttering. It takes a few seconds on starting up to buffer a little, then it's off and running!Others on this forum with g connections typically have no problems with streaming. The only real pain is the initial sync if you store a lot of movies on the
TV.I stream all video, store all music and photos.
Enjoy! And don't forget to "update" the software -- it's an option on one of the screens in the menu system -- to get YouTube.

thanks for the info. I have a linksys G router that I dont use the wireless as I only have 1 computer need and the wireless router was cheaper than the wired version. I am thinking of ditching that and getting the AEBS because of the usb uplink.
What I want to end up doing is this. My usb2/FW400 250g mybook is just about full. All that is on there is my itunes directory. I am going to switch that to a 500g mybook here in a few days. So I want to plug the 500g into the usb on the AEBS and run itunes from there. Is that going to be too slow because it has to read to the computer first and than to theTV?

TV?I think that people do not know what it does. They expect it to do everything and for cheap. In reality you cannot do that. What people are expecting is a tivo/dvd/cd player/slingbox/media player. Oh and they want it to play every kind of media file.

Imagine a hd-dvd, bluray, dvd (upscaling of course), hd tuner, tivo with 1TB harddrive that can stream from your mac (or pc) and send convert and send video/audio back to your mac/pc as well. that would be hella expensive. In general, and wildly exagerated for the sake of making a point, AEBS are much easier to use, set up, and reliable than the linksys routers (my experience.) I have seen other posts about using the AEBS "Air Disk" feature (HDD plugged into the USB port as you describe above) but I have no personal experience with it. I use a USB 2.0 hub, have 3 500 GB HDDs plugged in (1 for general iTunes library & iPhoto library, 1 for films and tv shows, 1 for Leopard Time Machine) and have had no problems.
As far as being too slow is concerned, if your computer is 802.11 n, which the
TV is, as well as the AEBS, you won't have a problem. I doubt the two-way traffic at "g" levels would be detrimental, but that's a guess.Search the forum for AirDisk and Air Disk and see what you come up with.

I love my appleTV and bought it solely because of how you could hack it, especially now without opening the device at all. It's all too easy now.

It plays back about anything your mac would, wmv, avi, mov, divx, xvid, and more.
It mounts network shares and streams from them, it can even play back a DVD inserted in one of your mac's, over the network.
It's crazy what you can do.
