Post filtering feature in Open Source Bulletin Boards

Hi, I was wondering if either punBB or phpBB have the following feature (I installed both, and I've been messing with the admin panel but I couldn't find it):
"The admin wants to be able to review posts made by novice members before they can be seen by the rest of the members."

So, does anyone know if either one of those has support for that feature? Perhaps through a plugin or a mod?

Also, a question for PHP developers: How long do you think it would've taken you to code say, phpBB version 1.0 (just the basic features of it)?

The client is feeling a bit uneasy about using OSS and says that he would rather have a forum that was coded by me (he feels he would have more control/knowledge of the code that way). I told him that it would take me at least a few months (I have a full time job already and I am a web developer only in my free time, the client knows this) and that my forums wouldn't be as good as phpBB or punBB. The time for coding the forums wasn't contemplated as part of the project because we agreed that we would use ready-made forum software.

No offense, but...

You should tell the client that using a forum coded by you is a bad idea. What happens if you leave, or are no longer able (or willing) to work for him in any capacity? He'll be **** out of luck on support and updates.

Remind him that reinventing the wheel is a TERRIBLE idea. If he really wants to pay money and wants a stable forum with good support (and supports what you asked for initially in your post), then have him look at a license of vBulletin.

Strangely enough, that's the reason why he wants me to code the forum. He feels that if I code it, he'll get a better grasp of its inner workings (through me). I've yet to tell him about the much better support he would get from ready-made forums (even open source ones), so perhaps he'll agree with me then.

He is a retired Unix developer, and he wants to be able to improve the site once we finish it. But it seems that we have a very different view of developing. He insists that coding the forums would be a very simple task, I strongly disagree . Also, I'm a ASP .NET developer, so I want to keep the PHP programming to a minimum for now (until I learn it properly).

I agree with you... Forum coding is NOT easy. If it was, there would be a lot more of them out there from Johnny Hichschool. I think he is (or will be) in over his head.

btw, does vBulletin have that feature?

It definitely does.. I mod on another forum (using vBulletin 3.5.1), and to keep SPAM low all new members must have their first 2 posts read & allowed by mods. I can't tell you which plug-in it is, but it's definitely from the vBulletin people.

it is a built in feature of vB that you can moderate a certain usergroups posts/threads.
