This is a technology forum or community and near enough everything we buy and use is
something we're partially attached too. It's sad but true... occasionally we'll all break
something. Sometimes it's due to carelessness, forgetfulness or a little of both??
Other times it's an accident waiting to happen.

Though what ever you break, that something could also be your precious :apple: Mac, right?
So here's a thread for something you've broke, damaged, destroyed or what have you...

@ home.
Amazing thread. Give me a second to upload the photo.

Edit: The photo is up. As everyone can see the huge dent at the side of my iPhone due to playing a match of Paintball with my iPhone on my front pocket.

I'll start...

Well folks, I got myself a new keitai (mobile) less than a week ago, when I brought it, it costed me a little over 50,000Yen (about $250). It's one of the latest models with all top notch features! It's shiny and new, directly from NTTdocomo...

As usual the first thing I do when I return home, I dump everything from my pockets onto my bed... normally this is just loose paper, coins, keys and garbage I've collected during that day. On this occasion there's no loose change, keys or garbage. Just my shiny new keitai...

A couple of days ago my workstation suffered a massive crash and it's internal RAID drives needed some maintenance. To make work a little easier, I unplugged everything and dumped the entire system on my bed so I can service it and what have you. However, before I could start doing anything.... there was a "crunch". Though I thought nothing of it.. thinking it's just keys  For a moment I actually sit on the frame of the workstation, cause one of the drive was stuck!! Again there's another "crunch" quickly followed by a huge cracking sound...

Uuh-oh!
Right away I know what's on the bed.. it wasn't no key!!

In less than a week, it went from this...

to this...

then to this..

and all because I placed my semi-fully loaded MacPro on the bed!! :(

All the other photos are here

I've gotten a replacement though it's not cheap!! And as a result of Japanese company rules I ain't allowed to keep my old unit.. If it's not return to their company, they're gonna charge me 40,000yen plus the 5,000yen I paid for the replacement unit!! Jesus.. I hate to think if you've lost it!

One of the key features on this keitai is it's fingerprint scanning ability..
Instead of using a crackable PIN, like in so many mobile phones, this one will only accept your fingerprint (assuming you set it up).

After three strokes failed attempts it'll power-down and apparently after a few concessive failures, it'll auto-lock! The only way of unlocking would be to take the unit to a docomo shop along with your identity and prove you're the active subscriber! The PUK code doesn't work!!

Last week I was irritated that it was so warm in our apartment so I tapped the thermostat with my nalgene, and all of a sudden those spidery black lines appear across the screen of the thermostat. It was extremely unfortunate.

I would post a picture of it, but I don't have a camera and currently the screen on my phone is broken, probably from me chucking the phone against a wall (girls... gah) even though the screen didn't break until a couple days after that.

Scene: Me, 25 years in the business. Weather station running on a PC. Nationally known company, live controllable video on the web, great stats.
Got the server, set it up. Ran for about 6 months. Then my entire network went down... slowed to a crawl. On the DMZ, so it took a LONG time to identify the Dos attack.
Reloaded all the software, added the anti-virus, closed all the ports. A week later, another Dos. Had a weird Blaster virus. Sent the machine to the company becasue they said WE can make it right. Swallowed pride, sent it. Got it back, a week later ANOTHER Dos. Unhooked the computer, wheeled it to the storeroom, picked it up, heaved it 25 feet across the room.
From that point on I was on a jihad to rid the district of every PC I could.

¥50,000 = approximately $500 USD. It's still a lot of money down the drain, though.

On the moon.
I dont have pics of it, but a 4G iPod.

Lets just say... it was sitting on my desk... and a certain woman pissed me off immensely when I was talking to her on AIM while trying to get it to restore... and it met my fist. >>'

Oh..
OK maybe $500 USD, I was thinking £'s.

The worst thing though... I have no ATM access right now, cause all that's was on my old unit along with my e-wallet setup and various other credit facilities - hence bio-metric scanner. Even though, it's equally annoying to lose the damn thing, plus there's the worrying factor on top!!

Certainly not a Mac, but I'm very attached to it... financially if nothing else !!!!
Thankfully not all that recently, however the engine in this was a little fickle at first. 1.9l 8v Peugeot engine rebuilt, balanced etc. Cam belt broke at 8000rpm. Not good !

Not good when you take the sump off and find debris

Nasty, hope you were OK! If you don't mind me asking, how did you manage that on a dry, straight road in what looks like perfect weather conditions?

Lol, I like how you put that!:D Well, the road has washouts in it.

Let me start off by saying I was fine...in fact (no joke), when I rolled I caught my iPhone in mid air! I reached for it with my life because that road is a secluded road...so if I did get hurt I would have been there by myself for a while!

STORY: I was going about 45mph (too fast for a dirt road...) and slightly turned to miss a pothole/washout and the back end broke loose...from there it was impossible to correct. It just swayed back and forth...for a second I had it under control then the last yaw jerked the steering wheel from my hands and that was it! It rolled like 2 times. My head hit the driver window and shattered it. When I landed on the side (pictured), I tried to climb out the driver window, but the vehicle tipped due to my weight and I thought it was going to tip totally over, so I got back in. I then tried to open the sunroof (which was a lost cause looking at the picture. I didn't know from the inside though). After that didn't work I rolled down the tailgate window and climbed out that. Then called my dad, then mom, then 911...then took about 40 pictures. It felt like an amusement park ride. SEATBELTS do work!!! The sheriff was a jerk (as usual) and said I was playing with the radio!?!? I only had an Ipod inside...whatever. I now have a duramax crew cab...that way better. I think I was lucky.

Well the things that I busted up the most is my right ankle.
Broken 5 times and multiple strains, I pretty much have to wear brace all the time, otherwise it just rolls and I go down.

When I get home I will see if can scan the x rays from the last fracture , where 2 bones became 7 :D
