Top is my culinary shelf, bottom is my pharmacy shelf.

Personally recommend Vietnamese Home Cooking by Andre Nguyen for those who want to learn how to cook authentic vietnamese. He breaks it down, and even explains what different ingredients are. Also shows how to make sauces and has pictures of different jarred sauces that you can find in an asian supermarket!

Also the food lovers companion is an amazing FOOD dictionary! Gives you the background and history and preparation styles of all different foods...has entries on all different kinds of cheeses, all different kinds of beers and all different kinds of pasta...very educational!

If you guys are interested in pharmacy (lol), Dipiro's book is the bible to all pharmacotherapy...but also 2558 pages and 5lbs. Thank goodness the pdf is on my ipad. (Score 1 for ipad!)

Anyone that owns a home or plans to own a home soon should have one of these. It's like literary duct tape and, assuming you know how to use tools, will save you quite a bit of money in the long run.

In that case I've been reading the dirk pitt series on my iphone for the last few weeks. I just finished my fourth or fifth one this weekend. Here's a pic of the few from itunes. The reading is a little juvenile and feels like it was written by a 12 year old at some points but the plots are entertaining.

Otherwise I'm a big Michael Crichton fan. I still need to finish reading some of his books but sphere, timeline, jurassic park, the lost world, next, prey, congo, etc. His writing is spectacular. If you haven't read jurassic park I highly recommend it. It makes the movie look horrible. Not that most books don't but this one especially.

Finally. Anything by Douglas Preston or Lincoln Child or both. Their collaborative series about special agent pendergast of the FBI is awesome. They'll keep you on the edge of your seat all the way through.
