Hello Apples,

I just bought a iMac 27" i5 version with the 2-TB Hitachi HDD.

Under browsing:

Fan-speeds:
ODD: 998 rpm
HDD: Always 1100 or above
CPU: 939

Temperatures:
ODD: 46C
HDD: 57C
CPU: 43C

The only thing what bothering me is the loud HDD fan. Really annoying.

So, what for iMac have you and what are the fan-speeds and temperatures of your iMac? And of-course how did you solve these high fan-speeds? (If you did)

Edit: I have also a loud buzz and a dead pixel + dust in the right corner under my screen.

I have a 27" i3 3.2Ghz with a Seagate 1TB HDD and my reading are the same except for HDD Temp. Mine is 46C. I have it in a well ventilated location. Not sure if that is making much of the difference or if it is the different processors.

My opinion -

Buzz. I gather this is the PSU, and is an issue with some iMacs. I don't think it's a cause for particular concern but you can find info in other threads here.

Bad pixel. If it's only one, oh well, it's disappointing but it happens.

Dust. How bad is it? This would irritate me.

Heat. 57C is "too high" for your HD. I say too high in quotes because opinions vary. My personal somewhat informed opinion is that over 50C isn't great and over 55" for sustained periods is bad (reduces HD lifespan). There are a lot lot lot of threads about iMacs and heat management here, search around. The TLDR is if you like your machines to last/gaming/heavy work/bootcamp, consider something like Temperature Monitor and smcfancontrol.
