Your battery life SHOULD be alot better than you currently say it is.

I charged my iPhone 3GS almost 1 week ago and this is my results still with 33% battery, picture for the people who would say "Yeah right" if i just had of given my word.

Also there was roughly 1 and a half hours of calls, just reset the call times earlier.

Hope this helps.

Yeah mate. BS.

Here is mine under normal usage.

This is my 3GS restored from a 3G backup. I have since setup my 3GS as a NEW phone and did not do a restore from backup. I can already tell the battery life is vastly improved. Currently being put through testing now.

I also think that SOME people are "padding" their results. You know, like running music only with every single item turned off and standby only. Or whatever they may be doing to get "higher results". All of which is stupid. Not only does not represent REAL WORLD results, you make others think they have a battery issue. Which they probably do not.

Anyways - I have found that there are so many variables that it's not even funny. I seriously doubt ANYONE gets what Apple advertises. They might get close but those are not real world results.

So I am guessing those of you that are getting over a day of standby time, plus 4-6 hours of usage are not playing a lot of games? I could be wrong, but with my experience on every generation of iPhone, playing games takes battery life faster than anything else, even web browsing on 3G. I haven't tested it yet, but I am thinking that if I took my phone right off the charger and instantly started playing games until the battery died, I would probably get about 3-5 hours of use MAX!

With any regular use involving a bit of application use or 3G web browsing, I have found it very hard to get past about 30 hours without charging the iPhone, on any model. I am currently testing my 3GS and am at 20% battery life with 4 hours, 32 minutes of Usage and 14 hours 45 minutes of Standby, which is not too bad after reading what some people get. I charge my iPhone nightly anyway.

If I were able, I would love to fully charge my iPhone and just leave it sit on standby and only use it 5-10 minutes per day to see what the battery life would be.

i usually carry a Griffin Power Block .. it provides at least 15-20 percent more battery usage until it runs out. That is usually enough to get me through what im doing until i can reach a place to charge the phone which is usually a car or wall socket. Its also small enough to not bother me at all if i had to carry it in my pockets, i barely notice it sometimes and other times i actually forget i have it with me.

This is about the best I've gotten so far on my 32 gig 3GS. This is after a couple of hours using the iPod, a few short calls, Pandora and a bunch of web surfing. Wifi, 3G, push were on and Bluetooth was off. Five hours or so seems to be pretty typical with those settings. I've noticed that staying signed in to AIM drains the battery very quickly.

3G ON
Push BeejiveIM

I used safari, skype, beejiveim, music, maps & camera during the 5hrs.

Just got my phone on saturday

Location-Off
3G-Off
Push-Off

I have a question - why do you all buy these phones if you are going to turn off all the features? Why pay such a high price for a phone, yet turn off the phone stuff? Get an iPod Touch instead. It would suite you better.

Or buy a backup battery.

There is my battery life.

Push email and notifications are on. Location services, Wifi, 3G and everything else stays on all day. The brightness is set to 50% and autobrightness on. All of my usage has been phone calls and text messaging and IMs on BeeJive. No iPod or anything else.

Im just wandering, does standby start as soon as you take it of of the charger and doesnt stop unit you connect it agin. Or does it start and stop every time you lock your phone and unlock it?

Starts immediately once you take it off the charger and lasts until it is fully charged again. It will count as standby as you use the phone too.

I've had my Iphone 3GS for less than a week and I can pull 6-8 hours of usage and just over 1 day of stand-by before it dies.

Eh, not too bad considering the fact that most of that 6-8 hours was phone usage over wifi. I also surfed safari shortly a couple times, played approximately an hour of music, texted quite frequently, checked mail, and played a few apps.

how does this compare:
2:20 usage
1day standby
push on for mobile me
3g on
wifi off
location off
few short phone calls ( max call 10 min)
8 texts
short browsing on 3g
one app update

44% left

I really don't understand how some get really good battery life and some get alot worse.

I'm at 48% battery left

2:22 usage
7:57 standby
3g on
location services on
wifi off
fetch new data off
brightness at like 45%

I think im sort of in the middle maybe a little worse then average.

That sounds alright. But in saying I'd have about 2 hours usage racked up by 11am in the morning...

Currently my 2G gets about 15 hours standby and 5-6 hrs usage daily. By the end of the day it's pretty much dead. So I'm hoping when I get my 3GS I'll still have some juice in it by the end of the day :)

Mine's not too bad

I was able to achieve identical results yesterday. about 8 hours with wifi browsing, Edge checking email and twitter, couple of phone calls with about 40% remaining. Not sure what my standby time was.

This is in contrast to when I was at the San Diego Comic Con. At the Con, I wasn't able to achieve the same results since I did some Edge and 3G web browsing, Google Maps with GPS, along with some video watching. Looking at the screenshot I took, its about 5 hours 35mins Usage and 1 Day, 3 Hours Standby time with 2% battery remaining.

Using Cellular Radio would be the main culprit in my battery draining. This is with Location Services on, no push, BT off, screen on auto brightness at about
10% brightness.

Here is mine.....

I dont think it's that bad with:

3G turned on
Wifi turned on
5 Email accounts all using fetch every 15min
Push Notification on 3 app
Ask to join networks...off
Location Services off
Auto Brightness on
