Despite my utter lack of interest in the iphoney, a good friend of mine is about to buy it. I'm asking him to hold off for a week to get him some battery info.

I would like to see from current owners how often they have to charge the battery and as they start to fully integrate it into their lives, how the battery performance is affected.

Pulled my phone off the charger at about 8AM this morning.

Did some web surfing, finished setting up my email accounts.

Checked out some Youtube videos.

Went to the Beach, showed it off to a bunch of folks, bringing them through all the functionality MANY times.

Listened to Music all day with the ear buds.

Made a few calls, sent some text messages, took some photos of the kids.

Battery lasted until about 8PM before I got the 20% battery warning.

The phone definitely sucks it down. The Power savings mode is in overdrive on this phone, everytime your not touching it, it sleeps??? Not sure what to call it.

Lipo's need to be cycled a few times before they get good at holding a charge. We'll see how it does in another week.

I used it A LOT today, mostly just showing it off to different folks, and it did pretty well.

OTOH, my wife had to go spend time at the hospital for her sister and her battery was at about the same level when she got home tonight. I never powered the device all the way down though and neither did she.

Anything has to be better than my PPC6700. I can have it charged and look at it funny and it drops to 90%. I have to charge once or twice a day and if I make a phone call or surf the web more than that.

I've been using mine all day and am at currently around 50% by the battery indicator on the title bar. Most of my day has been surfing the web on wifi with a few calls and SMS messages thrown in. I'm posting this reply on it as a matter of fact :) Anyway for my purposes its a good chance that I'll be able to go 2 days without having to charge it but I'll have to see how it goes on a workday. However, so far I'm very impressed with the battery life.

I bought at 6pm and had it charging by 6:15pm. Left it on till about 8pm will driving back from the store, making phone calls on the way, pulled it off for about 2 hours while I started configuring it. Put it back on around 10pm and back off at 12:30am (it showed full charge). It sat all night and I used it all day today, about 2 hours talking, 30 mins EDGE/WiFi surfing, about 50 pics and 3 hours of iPod. Mine is still showing 50% battery on the indicator, not sure how to see exact %. I think it will probably take at least 1 more charge (once battery warning comes on) if not 2 or 3 charges to successfully calibrate the battery. Apple is typically very accurate with it's battery estimates, so I will be very surprised if after a few charges the battery times don't fall into specs. I feel like I had excellent battery performance today, so I'm not worried.

id be happy if the iphone battery lastest once a day, for such a powerful fone it would be awsome. i only charge my fone once every 10days or so, it doesnt even have bluetooth, but it calls and sms's. all that i need!

I took it off the charger this morning been playing with it all day, listening to music surfing MR and showing it off to everyone I still have 1/3 my battery left.

I charge my current "regular" cell phone once every 5 days. I'd be making a stretch to have to do it once a day, twice a day would be unacceptable. I'd be tethered to a charging source all day.

Can you imagine trying to go camping or something? "I'll be back in a few hours....going to charge my phone again"

The phone has a ridiculous amount of time in standby. If you intend to go camping and use your phone 5 hours a day and charge it once a week this is not for you. Of course either is any other phone most likely.

Well... I would hope that you wouldn't spend your entire time camping watching youTube videos...

I've been really happy with my battery life. My treo 700p had to be charged constantly, but I took my iPhone off the dock around 10am, put it back in the dock 3 times or so for 10 minute periods to sync things, and now it's 1:05am and the battery hit around 60% or so. I've been showing the phone off frequently as well, using all the features.

in australia when u go camping a lot of the time there is no mobile reception at all!!! think yourselves lucky!! especially in the middle of aust, where you sometimes dont even get power

I'm pretty disapointed thus far with battery, wonder if it might be bad.

Synced it last night around 6:30. Left it on long enough to load some tunes and a few shows.

Played till 10 or so and put it on overnight, made sure the computer was set not to sleep.

Took it to work at 8, lots of showing off and a few (5 or so) short calls. Battery was dead, as in the phone popped a warning that said connect to a power supply at 2.

Charged till I left at 6. By 8:30 down to 60%. So far I'm not liking my odds of a good battery life.

My BB pearl would go a day, day and half at the max. That was acceptable, but not ideal.

Purchased at 8:30pm on Friday. Charged a bit on dock during activation but removed it the second it was done. It looked like it had a 80-90% charge.

Then I used it non stop until 4am making about 5 calls, 50 sms', 10 emails, browsed a LOT of sites, viewed a few youtube videos, played a few songs in iPod mode, watched 2 short videos, played with every setting and widget.

Woke up today and used it non-stop for about 3 more hours before getting the 20% warning. It took another hour to go completely dead by playing music and casual web surfing.

I'm actually quite impressed. I think my normal usage will be very light on a daily basis so I don't expect to have to charge it more than every 2-3 days.

I'm a bit relieved at the photos of people disassembling it to see that getting to the battery doesn't destroy the device. I assume that further down the road the battery can be replaced if you so choose and not just by Applecare.

i wonder what the battery life will be like... can u replace the batteries?? cauz if your only going to get 1-2-3 days, then imagine what happens if your batteries health is only 70% of the original capacity. i hope there isnt a big battery loss. wouldnt want to have to replace the batteries every 6-12months

i've been using the little battery info bar in settings to keep track of mine, right now this is what i have been doing
usage=5hrs 55mins
thats pretty much 3 hours of watching episodes of house without headphones and the rest using the internet on edge, made a couple of calls
standby=1 day, 4hours
this is my first full charge
i am pretty happy with it so far

I woke up full charged and used mine pretty heavy most of the day yesterday showing off all functions even Youtube, and went to bed with 50% battery life. When I woke up this morning it only had 5% left.

What concerns me is that the battery lasted fairly well during the day during use, but sitting idle it consumed so much to leave 5% when I woke up.

I have had to charge mine three times so far, but never letting it get to the battery low warning.

It seems that when you are having a blast playing with it on WiFi all the time and then showing it to people constantly, you run down the battery. Particularly when playing YouTube videos in the park when people ask to see it. Good thing a free WiFi restaurant is across from the kids favorite play spot at the park. Makes it easy to take my eyes off them! (j/k!)

I think with normal phone usage, the life is going to be fine. But with WiFi on surfing constantly, it does suck it down. Fortunately we don't have WiFi at work or I would be screwed.

I went to bed with around 90% last night and it was down to about 25% this morning. I charged it until about 12 and it's now down to 40% after about 5 hours of moderate use. I'm a little worried at this point.

Well...

After my first post, I put it on the charger last night, and it only put back about 80% on the battery. I left it on all day to see if it was me, when I got home, still only about 80%. Uggghhh...

I'll give it a few more days, but at what point will Apple replace the battery in this thing?

My Wifes phone charged to 100%

Another Note, If you press and hold the small button on the top right of the phone, the power down slider pops up and asks to slide to turn off the phone. Since I'm lazy and didn't ready any of the instructions or watch any of the videos, I figured that I'd pass that information along in case anyone wanted to actually shut the phone off instead of sleeping.

Mike...

In Standby mode (i.e. not using the phone for anything), it is supposed to get 250 hours (10 days). So you can go camping for a week, as long as you're not using it all the time.

i just got 4 hours of use time in the settings menu when it was giving me the 5% battery left message. This from surfing the web playing videos adding contacts and just generally messing around with it. Not very good if that's as good as it will get.

Are you saying you got 4 hours of use from when it was 100% charged until it was 5% charged?
