Is the camera any good? I’ve been on the fence about getting one for a while. The subscription puts me off.

It’s adequate even at night. I’m not sure how well the microphone works since I can’t test that too well by myself.

I bought the product primarily for its integration with Alexa so I can hear the door bell on the Echo Dots anywhere in the house. Plus the price at $99 was right.

It doesn’t need a subscription unless you want to take advantage of recordings. I wasn’t interested in that anyway but I think the basic plan is $30 a year so I might spring for it. The higher plans seems stupid to me.

I’ll try to remember to post a screenshot from the video over the weekend.

Cheers. Be interested to see.

Nest doorbell is 10x better imo as light saturation, quality, and integration in their ecosystem is fantastic. Ring gets washed out in the sun and the picture quality is below par.

Just my 2 cents as owning both before and the Nest products are light years ahead.

Thanks. I’ll look into Nest. I thought they were just for thermostats. I have zero interest in a smart thermostat. Or smart meter that my electricity company keep trying to get me to have.

I have Nest cameras inside and planned to buy their bell, but unfortunately their price scratched them off my list. The $99 Ring doorbell more than meets my needs plus their video exceeds what’s needed to identify someone if it ever comes to that. Actually, the Nest cameras i have inside are not better or worse than the Ring doorbell video...at least on my iPad.

But different people have different needs. For $99 I can hear the doorbell anywhere in the houses over the Echo Dots which was my personal goal.

What are your thoughts on the Osmo Pocket? I'm thinking of picking one up for some travel that I've planned later in the year.

I love it. The video quality is amazing especially for its size. Pano mode and motion lapse are very cool. 4k60 and gimbal in your pocket. Highly recommended.

I'm definitely thinking about getting into the camera doorbell. I'd like to do something where we know the bell was rung but not necessarily have the dog hear it. Plus at some point we'll be finishing the basement and there is no way I'll hear the current chime from down there.

Nest offers that option where you can mute the chime when you like or keep it off all the time. You still receive notifications on your smart devices (I have google home hubs/minis in every room) but the chime won't ring. Its great for napping kids and the Nest video quality and wider angle blows Ring away.

Also, set an alert on Slickdeals as these video doorbell, smart locks, cameras are ALWAYS on sale to catch a good deal.

Happy shopping.

Unable to hear the doorbell throughout the house was my issue too. So, I have the door bell announce over the Echo Dots around the house. The dogs are clueless when they’re rang, except they notice me walking to the door and see someone through the glass. Haha.

I picked up a new laptop last month. I've been using it daily for the past couple of weeks, and its a joy, fast, cool and relatively quiet. The keyboard is so much better then the butterfly keyboard. I scored a 30% coupon code, which really dropped the price and allowed me to get a configuration that worked better for me, i.e., 1TB storage.

That red dot really is iconic. :)
Enjoy!

NVME, right?

Yes! So much so that HP copied them years ago for their professional line of laptops, a step above business all the way through their mobile workstations. I think they got rid of them a few years ago or offer it as an upgrade option when speccing a unit out.
