Doing some refurb to the flat

Swapping out light/socket faceplates from brass/gold which look too vintage and tachy for me.

to silver/chrome. Ideally wanted matte black switches but saw the wiring was still in good shape and couldn't be bothered to rewire anything.

Added new shoe bench + storage to the hallway

With Thanksgiving a week away I was looking for a recipe for turkey legs. Found one on ChefSteps.com (descended from staff that worked Nathan Myhrvold's Modernist Cuisine opus, developed the Jule on their own, then they were acquired by Breville). Recipe is paywalled unfortunately.

Had never heard of a pressure cooker braiser but the recipe recommended it. Its flat, vs tall size of other pressure cookers, make cooking a turkey leg possible.

It is fast! Cooking the leg (after some garlic and onion sauteing) takes 20 minutes with 10-15 minutes resting time. You don't get the crisp skin but it is likely the juiciest and most flavorful turkey leg I have ever eaten. The spices made for an incredible flavor.

7.5 g Baking soda, 0.5% to the weight of the legs
25 g Brown sugar, light, 1.6% to the weight of the legs
25 g All-Purpose Holiday Seasoning Blend–Two Ways, 1.6% to the weight of the legs
7.5 g Salt, 0.5% to the weight of the legs

Holiday Seasoning Mix
25 g Dried garlic flakes
20 g Dried orange peel
15 g Black peppercorns
7 g Cinnamon sticks
5 g Ginger
5 g Rosemary, dried
8 g Kosher salt

I've been lusting for a Simucube ActivePedal for my sim racing rig since it was released last year and finally made it happen!

After three years of annoying everyone I know with the line; "One of these days, whenever I get a new truck.", I finally did it.

Its a 2023 402a Tremor. Paid a little more than I would have liked, but at least I got it before 2025. The wife says I have to sell one of the other vehicles now. I guess no one *needs* 5 trucks, an SUV, and a car. lol. Ill get around to it eventually.

I absolutely love these and I didn’t think I’d like a set of wireless cans more than I’d liked the AirPods Max and B&O H95’s. These are superior to both in my opinion.

Got them on a great Black Friday deal for $550 which made it even better.

So glad I saw your post. The Ernest Wright scissors are on too long a wait for Christmas but I was able to find these. Very excited to give these hand made William Whiteley & Sons (also made in Sheffield) for Christmas.

I recently purchased a 4k monitor for work (upgrading from a 1080p monitor) during black Friday (sorry, no photos of my workstation). Initially a bit apprehensive about how the high resolution might work on such a small screen, but at 150% scaling, text still looks sharp and readable and I am satisfied. But it's the holidays now and I will really only know when school resumes next year and I have more opportunities to put it through its paces.

I must say, it's humongous, and also feels pretty well built, plus the ability to raise/lower and tilt it is a nice touch, though for some reason, I find reading documents in portrait mode somewhat nauseating. Maybe because it's too tall? o_O

Now looking through hubs and docks and have this in mind. Anyone has experiences with this laptop stand + dock combo or anything similar? 😛

iPad Pro 11 inch to replace Mrs AFB 2017 model. Just set it up for her. Gets easier and easier to do doesn't it? Just leave the device next to your old device basically.

Anyway the old iPad Pro will become mine. I don't really use the iPad all that much. Prefer my Mac or iPhone.
Well wear.

At two different times, yielding to advice and warm recommendations from colleagues, I actually had two iPads, - and each of my brothers inherited a device, as I never much cared for them.

Does Mrs AFB actually like it? Does she like using it?

Personally, I far prefer my MBA.

It’s the only computer she uses. No smart phone and the doesn’t log into my Mac for at least 5 years. She spends hours on it a day.
