on a binge lately

Derek Botelho's The Argento Sydrome, which combines memoir with Argento film critiques and several interesting interviews (Leigh McClouskey's interview on the Inferno dvd was so weird, I'm curious if this one is equally bonkers.) Botelho was actually on the set of Sleepless yet he's not afraid to rip Dario a new one for his lackluster recent films. The stills and interviews warranted a purchase.

On Set with John Carpenter. John Carpenter was my favorite director in my teens and 20s. I still love some of his output immensely (yes Escape From New York remains my all time favorite movie, what a surprise.) Still photographer Kim Gottlieb-Walker shot many behind the scenes moments on Halloween, The Fog and Escape from New York. I actually owned a few of her EFNY stills (and one from the Fog) some years ago but with almost 60 pages of this book dedicated to Escape From New York alone, I knew I had to pick it up. Just to see more like this great rehearsal shot, yes PLEASE.

Thanks :) I'm glad Apple gives choices other than white and black (well I guess black is gone lol). The aluminum plays a huge role in making actually look like a really nice gold. If it were plastic I don't think it would have came out so nice.

Kind of sorry I did not go gold after seeing yours and I'm a silver kind of gal, no less. :D

Upgraded from a 16GB iPad Mini 2 to a 128GB iPad Air 2. Not sure I'll like the larger physical size, but love the screen:D.

Ah, some new completely unknown coffees! I think there are a number of coffee aficionados who dwell deep in some hidden recesses of these fora who will be most interested to read your tasting notes.

However, most important of all is that you enjoy the coffee made from these beans.

Today, on a whim, in a small antiques shop, when I was putting (more) money on a number of items I have put aside, I bought six, small, solid silver espresso spoons. They all sported a little knob in the shape of a coffee bean at the top of the spoon handle, on the opposite end from the bowl of the spoon.

Indeed, as my friends on the coffee and espresso threads well know, these are not the first espresso coffee spoons of this type, or from this era, that I have bought. Oddly enough, a number of these sets have come my way, in recent weeks, and I rather like them. Anyway, the style is classical Art Deco.

Today's purchase were a mismatched set, a fact which only became clear on closer examination - two dated from 1931, and the remaining four, wonderfully (and I was shown the books with the respective assayed hallmarks) dated from 1914, which is pretty early in the Art Deco era.

While all of the other sets of solid silver little Art Deco espresso spoons - complete with decorative coffee bean - that I bought in recent weeks came in nice little cases, (including the one I bought in London two months ago, which I got dated today - 1928 according to its identifying hallmark), these orphaned spoons - clearly, the remnants of two sets subsequently merged, didn't; instead, they looked as though they had lived life, a little.

Anyway, I bought them, and, wrapped in tissue paper, they went - first into my coat pocket, and, after some thought, into my briefcase. If a small case materialises, fine (and the vendor promised to try to source one); if not, no problem, I shall use these spoons anyway.

I rather like the idea of using a spoon that is a century old - an ever so slightly battered, clearly not brand new, solid silver espresso spoon, to stir a morning cup of espresso.

The not-quite-set of six small, solid silver, Art Deco espresso spoons were not my only purchase today.

In the same small antiques shop, I also spotted a set of - yes, again, Art Deco - exquisite port glasses. Needless to say, I bought them, but shall defer taking possession until closer to the Yuletide celebration.

Dinner this past Saturday night at the Alabama-Miss State game. Roll Tide!
