Hi All!

I just used a fantastic application for Intel Macs & PPC's called BootXChanger.
It works up to 10.5.2 and is very easy to use.

Post yours here if you want to :D:D

Here is my new Boot Screen: (Ahh, Nostalgia...). Even more nostalgia with the Happy Mac Logo and the Picaso Mac Logo :D

Edit: I now have the colour Happy Mac Logo on the Tiger Partition and the Black and White on Leopard's Partition.....Looks really effective :D

I have been trying to get my image within the accepted limits but for some reason no matter what I do it rejects it. Perhaps post the pictures that you actually used when using bootxchamp as it will save others some work

oh if anyone wants to make the following compatible I would be grateful. Or at least give me fool proof steps.

please actually click on the second one as for some reason it looks awful when displayed inline but fine when you view the attachment

Does anyone know what the required dimensions are? I'm really liking that first one, xUKHCx, and I want to use it too. :)

(For the Demi-God Moderator. Will work with other images, just use your own, dimensions will not change.) Open up the bird thing picture in PS, Select all the Black, Colour it to #BFBFBF (Default Apple Grey).

Resize Image to under 128x128 px. ( Maybe 120 or 110 even 100 would suffice )

Shrink Canvas size to 128x128 px.

Save it for Web & Devices @ PNG-8. Make sure it is under 100 colors, also under 1000 K.

Drag and Drop it onto BootXChanger.

Reboot to see your marvel.

It's Death By Stereo's logo more recently ripped off by Tarantino for the Death Proof cover.

The Classic one works but the Skull one doesn't I honestly don't know what is wrong as comparing your file mine seem to be with in the limits but don't work

If you are still having trouble, Post your resolution and I will scale them and fix them in PS for you.
.

I would like to use them on both of my computers so 1280x800 and 1650x1080 but realise that might be twice the work so just the MB size will be fine. Cheers.

BTW It is a Liver bird.

I think the reason is that Intel Mac's were sort of restricted by Apple.

Quote from BootXChanger Website:
On Intel Mac's use simpler shapes or images.

They also mention that PPC macs have more freedom than Mactels.
I think that may be the problem.

Cheers!

What I don't get though is why the classic apple works and yet the other ones don't. Also I tried and it will accept a 240MB tiff file and also the original Liver Bird pic (attached) but as soon as I try and edit it in anyway (to make it actually fit) the program has a hissy fit. I wish the developer would make the program so it would convert files to work.

Its too late and this is too picky :(

Can anyone see if they're able to convert this image for use on a MacBook? BootXChanger keeps telling me it can't be used as a boot image, but it's only 4 colors, PNG-8, and 4KB. Thanks!

Normal for me. I never even see my boot screen. I keep my computer on 24/7 and whenever I have to restart I go do something else really quick.

Complex Images won't work on Intel Mac's. It says so on BootXChanger's Website. PPC Macs could use the image that you attached, without a hitch. We Mactel users will have to wait until hackers find a way to allow more complex images on our Mac's.

yeah im havin the same problem as Mal but im not even using a complex image. only a tiny bit of text. i even tried making something real simple, such as a circle, but even that didn't work.

Love them, I have the Death Alive album and they sound amazing live.

pfft only the one album*? try everything they've ever released, as well as Clint. I've been to see them about 3 times and they are coming over here again in the summer which is bloody brilliant.

*go out and buy the others they are worth it, especially the earlier stuff.

I find it to be too troublesome to produce pictures that will work with it, basically whenever I edit a file it complains. Oh well, here's hoping someone will come up with a solution.

Thanks for the Happy Mac! I've adjusted it so it reminds me more of the one on my Classic.
