Oh and I should be picking up a powermac 6500 this week unless the owner sells it out from under me.

Here are the PPC machines i have in my room right now and that are fully functional. I also have a few others in the attic, especially two Dual G5 machines that have a few problems at the moment and since i don't have the time to get to them, they'll have to wait until the spring.
I'm partial to the Quicksilver there. One of the most beautiful Macs, Apple has ever made. IMO. :D

The funny thing about the PowerMac G5s is I used to think that at full blast, they were the noisiest desktops ever. The growl they make when you turn them on is a sorta menacing rawr.

My current desktop makes the G5 sound like a kitten purring. Still, I like the quiet vroom the g5s do when you turn them on. I wonder how the Mac Pro will sound.

That said, aesthetic wise I think the G5, the iMac G4, and the g4 cube are my favorite oldschool macs. Mmm. Looking at the Mac Pro I'm kinda glad to see they've still got it. It picked up a lot from the iMac G4. lol.

ever tried a Mirror Drive Door G4? That sounds like a vacuum cleaner when running. The G5 when doing normal tasks is pretty silent to be fair, perhaps just slightly louder than my quad core iMac with its humming.

Recently purchased this "like new in box" G4 20" with all the original gear. Running Leopard with the Mountain Leopard Theme & TenFourFox.
Upgraded to 1.25 GB RAM, will further upgrade to 2 GB in the next couple weeks. (that should be fun)

Quite impressed with the speed and capabilities of this 10 year old rig. Nice piece of work..

If I may ask, how much did you pay for that? It is still such a beautiful design in my opinion.

I love the thing. It's the dual 800MHz model. I replaced the geforce2 with a radeon 7500. The difference between them in terms of performance was more than i expected. That darn thing runs like a charm under leopard. I've even used it to play unreal tournament 2004 online.

Heres mine.

The G5 on the far left is a gutted early 2.5 system. Its my "Glorified plug strip" as a friend calls it. The LCS from it is sitting on the shelf between the two white boxes.

The G5 on the other side, under the desk, is my functional system. A '05 dual 2.3 system on 10.5.8.

The one on the far right is a early 1.8 system, that I got up and running and traded to a friend for a win7 pro system.

Ive had these computers for only a couple weeks now. Ive always loved these cases, and the price was right (got all 3 from different people, but spend less than $200 total). Im new to the PPC thing, and still pretty new to apple in general at this point. My plans are to run the 2.3 until something dies, and then use the case to build a Hackintosh.

The Glorified plug strip case.

Best cable management solution ever.

Thanks.

Its a little cleaner looking now, that was an in progress picture. But there is still quite a bit of excess wires in the bottom of the case. Also, the plug strip isn't sitting level, because I used existing stand offs in the case to hold it up.. I didn't physically modify the case at all for this. So I *could* fix the bad solder joint on the logic board, and put that 2.5 system back together and have it be fully functional again.

I Would do, if it's not to hard. It's something to say you've got 3 PowerMacs in working order!

It did work for a little while, for a few days I did have all 3 running. But That one had what I guess is a common issue with a solder joint between the ram slots. And while my LCS is completely intact with no leaks, I read so many stories about them leaking that I decided that would be the case I would make into my plug strip. I originally started looking for an empty or dead system specifically for that anyway. I just found all of these locally for prices I couldn't resist. Im just hanging on to all the parts for spares for the 2.3 (what parts interchange anyway, the 2.3 is 2 years newer and air cooled.)

Just picked up this beauty/beast combo.

Only scuffs/scratches are on the bottom metal plate. Other than that, its really nice. It was running 10.3 when I got 'er, now she's roaring like a Leopard.

Good specs too, this is the fastest iMac of this type (sunflower). Honestly, this was the best deal ever. This was my payment for diagnosing their 2007 iMac (the ones with the terrible GFX chip. After having the chip replaced in this one, its going out again) and putting Mavericks on their 2013 MacBook Pro. So happeh rift now.

my setup though I need another table from ikea for an extension (which is why the PowerBook is on the printer) but I don't have the space currently.

would love to pick up a bigger Apple Cinema Display but I don't have the space and there isn't anything local except for the 17" I bought.

Love G4s much?

They're the Macs I drooled over the most as a kid and now I can get them dirt cheap :D

MDD: Dual 1.25, 2GB RAM, 500GB HDD (modded an ATX power supply to run it, has an optional external second power supply to power an ADC monitor)
Quicksilver: 733MHz, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD (one is alive, other one is dead)
iMac: 1GHz, 758MB RAM, 80GB HDD
eMac: 1GHz, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD

Nice! I have an attachment specifically to iBooks.. I'm typing this on a G4 :)

Yay! My brother in law has a Leopard disk that he doesn't use, that he'll let me use to install on my iBook! Leopard from a USB didn't work...
I was beginning to get tired of having Tiger which no one supports anymore.
