What exactly are the advantages of having a printer that comes with PostScript?

Mostly If you are using any page layout software. The OPI won't work on output without a postcript printer. You would need a RIP in between or make PDFs of everything you were going to output. Also all line work would be smoother and renderered correctly with a PS printer.

More accurate font rendering and Postscript halftones. The latter is especially valuable if you print images. The dither-patterns used by many non-Postcript printers simply is not very good. The advantages can been seen in the output from any application.

That was not what I was implying at all. If you slow down and read again it says in order to accurate output from Quark or InDesign without a Postscript printer you would need to make a PDF of everything you intended to output in order make use of the Adobe rip.

I read your post several times and could not make out your point, so I figured someone asking a very basic question about Postscript probably would not get it either.

Incidentally, FWIW, I'm never going to buy a non-Postcript printer again. I bought one last year, and I simply cannot get used to the output, particularly the lack of reasonable halftones.

Question, I am in Australia. We have just had a Panasonic copier installed and they overlooked that we also use a G5 for design (indesign) hence it will not send to print.

I am not a Mac user nor super IT smarts, they say I need a postscript "key" and then the postscript drivers. Is that correct and where do I get this from ?

Also, what is this "key" software or ?
