power adapter cord breaking

The plastic insulation to the cord for my macbook's power adapter is breaking just at the end of the stress relief, and I'm pretty sure at some point it will fail. Is this something Apple will cover under warranty? The machine is less than a year old, plus I have Apple Care.

I have a refurb 15" MBP that has the telltale "knuckle" forming just beyond the strain relief after only 3 months. I was looking for it since I just had the adapter fail on my 18 month or 15" G4 PowerBook for the same reason. Despite having AppleCare, I was told that it was not considered a warranty issue and turned down for a replacement.

I didn't feel like putting up a fight so I bought a generic adapter from OWC. It works, but I miss the LED on the plug.

Anyway, I'm going to go after Apple on the MBP adapter. I already have one call in to them on it and a service ticket number. I'm going to give it another week and call again, now that I've zapped the PRAM, reset the PMU, etc.,etc., etc. per their recommendation.
