power button problem

i usually can turn on the mac by using the power button without having the charger plug into the mac pro but i haven't been able to do that anymore. now i have to plug the charger into the outlet before i can turn on the mac by the power button. does anyone know how to reset it so that i can turn on the mac with just using the power button?

Your Mac Pro can't run without power. Of course you have to plug it in first.

are you talking about a macbook (pro)?

if so than maybe your battery is depleted (or almost dead)
under system report check Hardware/power and then under Health Information you should see Cycle count: (a number)

if your cycles are over 500 then your battery needs changing...
